Kelly Clarkson has become a staple on The Voice and she was very busy before the season 21 premiere. On the show, the original American Idol winner is part of a panel of coaches. She joined the series as a regular coach in 2018. Although Kelly has been in the spotlight since her revolutionary reality TV win back in 2002, the singer has reached a new pinnacle in her career within the past few years. From crushing her own talk show to making it through a bitter divorce, here’s everything that Kelly accomplished before coaching on The Voice season 21.

Kelly first appeared on The Voice season 2 as a part-time advisor in 2012. Kelly returned as an adviser on season 13, one season before she replaced pop star Miley Cyrus as a full-time coach. Since season 14, Kelly has been an essential part of The Voice. Not only has Kelly’s team won three times in a row, but the artist’s bubbly personality has become invaluable to the competition show. Kelly is one of the longest-lasting coaches featured on The Voice, aside from original cast member Blake Shelton. While maintaining her role on the show, Kelly has managed to expand her career in the past few years. She has remained a force to be reckoned with in the music industry and has established that she’s a television marvel as well.

Before becoming a full-time coach on The Voice season 14, Kelly was a phenomenon. Throughout her career, Kelly sold over 25 million albums and 45 million singles worldwide. According to Billboard,  Kelly “has landed 26 songs on the Hot 100, including three No. 1s.” Her number one hits include her American Idol victory song, “A Moment Like This”, 2009’s “My Life Would Suck Without You”, and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You).” The latter tune ruled the charts for three weeks back in 2012. However, Kelly is more than just a commercial success. Kelly won three Grammys for her sophomore album, Breakaway. She has continued to put out new albums, the most recent of which is The Meaning Of Life, released in 2017Kelly’s new Christmas album, When Christmas Comes Around, will feature a track with The Voice coach Ariana Grande and release on October 15.

Although Kelly’s skills as a musician are what led to all of her achievements, the singer has expanded her empire by hosting talk shows. In 2019, The Kelly Clarkson Show debuted on NBC and it is still going strong in season 3. The Kelly Clarkson Show was received positively by critics, earning three Daytime Emmy awards, including Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host for Kelly. On top of coaching The Voice and releasing music, Kelly keeps busy by hosting her daytime talk show. Regrettably, Kelly’s personal life has encountered some obstacles in recent years despite her professional success. In June 2020, Kelly and her husband of seven years, Brandon Blackstock, filed for divorce. In November 2020, USA Today shared that Kelly “won primary physical custody of her children.” Kelly’s divorce was finalized on August 3, 2021, just a month before The Voice season 21 premiere.

Kelly definitely has one of the most fruitful careers in the entertainment industry, after starting out on a reality competition almost two decades ago. From releasing a Christmas album to getting divorced, Kelly has been busy leading up to season 21. Kelly has cemented herself as one of the hardest-working and most beloved coaches in The Voice history.
