Chevel Shepherd won The Voice season 15 at just 16 years old, and in the last two years, she has continued to work on new music and hone her country sound. While it is true that the COVID-19 pandemic put a pause on many of her plans, she has still managed to accomplish some firsts since coming out on top during season 15 of The Voice.

Chevel Shepherd originally auditioned for The Voice when she was 13. She didn’t make the cut at first, but when season 15 started casting, she got a call inviting her to a private audition. She accepted the invitation, and when she sang for the judges for the first time, three out of four chairs turned around for her. Chevel decided to go with Kelly Clarkson as her coach, and the two worked together all the way to the finals, which Chevel won at just 16 years old. Chevel has been called an old soul, and that’s partly because of the style of music that she prefers. Usually, the singer gives preference to traditional country music over the more modern pop-country that’s popular today.

Ever since The Voice season 15 ended, Chevel Shepherd has released four singles on streaming platforms like YouTube and Spotify. Her single “Just Like the Circus” was co-written by Grammy Award winner Kacey Musgraves. All things considered, it was the COVID-19 pandemic that inspired Chevel to release a Christmas album. She told Forbes, “I’ve wanted to do a Christmas album and felt this was the perfect year. Everyone has been away from their families, and the holidays haven’t been the same. I just thought, Christmas brings a lot of joy and light and that’s exactly what we need this year.” The album features lesser-known country songs like “Country Christmas” by Loretta Lynn, along with some old classics like “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”

Chevel Shepherd’s first full-length EP was just released on Friday, March 26, 2021. She told her Instagram followers, “I’ve been waiting on this for a long time and I’m so stoked for y’all to hear all of it.” It’s been two years in the making, as the now-18-year-old began working on her EP almost as soon as her season of The Voice ended. She’s also been busy covering classic country songs like “I’m a Ramblin’ Man” on her YouTube page. Before the pandemic hit, she opened the Indy 500 by singing “God Bless America” to a crowd of 300,000 race-watchers.

Last but not least, Chevel also has been brushing up her acting skills. She starred in a film called Wildfire, which was inspired by a country song of the same name by Michael Martin Murphy. After winning The Voice as a teenager, Chevel Shepherd seems like she’s just getting started with her country music career. Luckily, she knows where she wants to head, and her fans can watch and see just how she gets there.
