Avatar: The Last Airbender, an animated TV show, was on Nickelodeon between 2005 and July 2008, and, since it dropped on Netflix, it has been entertaining fans who used to watch it and people who have just discovered it, as well. 

The main characters have distinct looks, and some may recognize a couple of voices in this television show, too. Let’s celebrate some of the unsung actors—as well as a few famous celebrities—who helped to make some of our favorite characters from Avatar a reality.

10 Aang Is Voiced By Zach Tyler 

The Last Airbender and the Avatar himself is Aang, who is voiced by Zach Tyler. Tyler also voiced Andrew Mulligan on the show Little Bill from 1999 to 2002, as well as Pablo on The Backyardigans from 2004 to 2006. His IMDb page does not show any other major acting credits since he was Aang in this show, though he did appear in a few video games. He does seem to have moved to behind-the-camera roles, though, as he has served as cinematographer and producer for a television show and a short.

9 Sokka Is Voiced By Jack De Sena

Next up, when it comes to characters from this story, is Sokka, and he is voiced by Jack De Sena. Some other TV shows that have featured this comedic actor include Grounded for Life, All That, Melissa & Joey, and Veep. He can also be seen on YouTube, as he and his friend, Chris W., have a channel called Chris and Jack.

8 Katara Is Voiced By Mae Whitman

One of the most recognizable voices from the show is Katara’s, and it is provided by Mae Whitman. As an on-screen actress and voice actor, this star has been entertaining viewers for years and years.

In 1996, she was in Independence Day, and she went on to portray Tinker Bell in animated films. On TV, she was Ann Veal in Arrested Development from 2004 to 2013, as well as Amber Holt in Parenthood from 2010 to 2015. More recently, she has played Annie Marks in Good Girls.

7 Appa & Momo Are Voiced By Dee Bradley Baker

The show would not be complete without Appa and Momo, and all of their cute sounds are created by Dee Bradley Baker. Name an animated series, and this voice actor has probably worked on it, and he’s contributed to such classics as Legends of the Hidden Temple, Space Jam, Cow and Chicken, Johnny Bravo, Teen Titans, Danny Phantom, G-Force, Adventure Time, Family Guy… The list goes on and on! 

6 Prince Zuko Is Voiced By Dante Basco

A huge transformation took place with Prince Zuko, a character voiced by Dante Basco. He has been acting since the 1980s, appearing on television shows like Touched by an Angel, Moesha, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Hawaii Five-0, and Star Wars Rebels. Many should recognize this star as an iconic character from 1991, though: Rufio in Hook!

5 Toph Is Voiced By Michaela Jill Murphy

As the story progressed, Aang and his friends met an Earthbender named Toph who was brought to life by Michaela Jill Murphy. She also voiced Amanda on American Dragon: Jake Long and a Young Franny on Meet the Robinsons, to name a few. Her voice can be heard in several video games and shorts, as well. 

4 Uncle Is Voiced By Mako

A fan favorite, tea-drinking character is Uncle Iroh, voiced by Mako. This actor’s IMDb page lists his first acting credit back in 1959! He appeared in well-known shows like Wonder Woman, M*A*S*H, and Walker, Texas Ranger, and he provided voices on series such as Samurai Jack and Dexter’s Laboratory.

One of his last roles was the voice of Splinter in TMNT from 2007, a flick that released after he passed away in 2006.

3 Azula Is Voiced By Grey Griffin

One of the antagonists in this story is Azula, Zuko’s sister, and she is voiced by Grey Griffin. This is another celeb who has been seen and heard on many different movies and shows such as Rugrats, The Powerpuff Girls, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, What’s New, Scooby-Doo?, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Gravity Falls and The Simpsons.

2 Suki Is Voiced By Jennie Kwan

Many other supporting characters popped up on this TV show, including Suki, a Kyoshi Warrior who was romantically involved with Sokka. She was voiced by Jennie Kwan, who has been Kimberly on Family Matters in 1997, Joan on New Girl in 2016, as well as the voice of The Local Pedestrian Population in Red Dead Redemption II from 2018. 

1 And Some Other Big Stars Voiced Some Other Side Characters…

Over the years, some very famous and talented stars joined this series, lending their voices to side characters. For instance, tennis player Serena Williamswas Ming while Erik von Detten, an actor known for being Sid in the Toy Story movies and Josh Bryant in The Princess Diaries, was Chan.

Daniel Dae Kim, who appeared in shows like Lost and The Good Doctor, was General Fong, Jason Isaacs, a.k.a. Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter, was Commander Zhao, and the one and only George Takei was the voice of a Warden!
