Zombies are one of the most popular horror concepts of all time, with recent years showing a huge increase in zombie stories, with Shaun of the Dead, the Walking Dead, and Train to Busan. That being said, almost every zombie property has its own issues with regards to the zombies. While some of these logical issues can be overlooked, this gets more challenging when a show tries to give a grounded explanation for the zombies’ existence.

This article will list 10 things that make no sense about Zombie logic in the Walking Dead.

10 Decomposition

One of the main aspects of the Walking Dead that has separated it from other zombie properties is its creative decision to make the zombies appear more and more decomposed as the series progressed, showing that the zombies are actually dead.

However, the issue here is that if the creators accept that decomposition does affect zombies, then the zombies should have fallen to pieces after a few months.

9 Can Survive Days Without Eating Or Drinking

Much like the first entry here, appealing to the realism of the zombie condition may have its initial merit, but this simply raises the Walking Dead’s zombies to even more questions than if they would have just avoided the question altogether.

One can assume from the fact that zombies have a compulsion to eat humans that they need to eat humans, yet a zombie is shown to be able to live for months (or even years) without food and water. Does this mean that zombies don’t need to eat humans (or anything) to live and are essentially immortal?

8 Sneaky Zombies

Despite the fact that zombies are incredibly slow-moving, loud, stumbling, and stupid creatures driven by their own hunger and desire for human flesh, they consistently manage to sneak up on the living during the show.

This is clearly just done for dramatic effect. Not only should zombies be unable to sneak up on people, but the survivors who have lasted so long in this apocalyptic universe should have learned to avoid getting sneaked up on.

7 Really Strong But Really Slow?

The zombies in the Walking Dead universe are said to be incredibly strong. This isn’t only an issue with zombies in the show, but also with the concept in general.

Typically, zombies are shown to be slow but incredibly strong. The strength is said to come from their lack of pain and so on, but surely this should affect their speed as well.

6 Why Don’t Zombies Attack Each Other?

The zombies in the show aren’t exactly clever and possess a primal thirst for human flesh, so one of the main questions that springs to mind is why don’t the zombies attack one another?

The show has been clear that the zombies recognize one another and do not attack one another, but no reason has been given as to why this is.

5 Does Zombie Mythology Not Exist In The Walking Dead Universe?

This isn’t only an issue in the Walking Dead, but is also fairly prevalent across other zombie properties. For some strange reason, the Walking Dead takes place in a universe in which there is no zombie mythology – why else would they refer to the zombies in the show as ‘walkers’ rather than zombies?

This is a strange creative decision, having a pre-existing idea of zombies doesn’t make them less scary or make the people more likely to handle the situation.

4 Inconsistent Turning Times

For those who unaware, the bite of a zombie (generally) turns someone into a zombie themselves. However, one of the clearest issues with this is the inconsistent length of time it takes for a person to turn into a zombie.

Sometimes, it can take an hour or so for a person to turn, other times it can take several hours, potentially even closer to a day.

3 Do Zombies Need The Toilet?

One of the most prominent features of a zombie is its thirst for flesh. Zombies walk countless miles just to find a scrap of meat that they can eat, yet everyone understands very little about the zombie digestion process.

It’s a rule that ‘what goes in must come out’, so does this mean that the zombies go to the toilet and digest their food? If not, does the meat just sit in their dead stomachs and rot?

2 Why Aren’t There More Half-Eaten Zombies?

Zombies have a desire for human flesh and the ability to infect humans with a bite, a perfect combination that is guaranteed to spread the virus.

However, rarely do zombies actually devour another human. Instead, people only seem to get devoured if they’re set on by a herd of zombies (or if someone’s Lori and there’s one zombie in the room).

1 The Zombie Bite

Perhaps the Walking Dead should’ve said less about the nature of the zombie virus as it leaves more for the imagination of the viewer and less for criticism.

One of the main issues with the Walking Dead is how getting bitten by a zombie can turn someone into a zombie, but covering one’s self in the guts and bodily fluids of zombies doesn’t. Surely this ought to have the same effect.
