The Walking Dead producer Scott M. Gimple teases the finale’s possible post-credits scene. First airing on AMC in 2010, The Walking Dead has since become one of the network’s most popular series, chronicling the lives of a group of survivors after the onset of a zombie apocalypse. The Walking Dead is now in its 11th and final season, with the last group of episodes starting to release later this year. While the main series is ending, several spinoffs have already been announced, including The Walking Dead: Dead City, starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The Walking Dead‘s latest episode ended on a major cliffhanger, with the fate of Oceanside, Alexandria, and Hilltop in the balance. The Commonwealth has been set up to play a significant role in what is sure to be an action-packed final eight episodes as the mainline story of the series comes to and. While the announcement of the various The Walking Dead spinoff shows has assured fans that at least a few fan-favorite characters will survive, it also means the show’s final episodes will not only have to conclude the series’ storylines, but they will also have to set up what’s to come.

According to Gimple, some of this setup might come as a post-credits scene in the finale. In a new interview with EW, the producer reveals that they’re still in the process of working out precisely what a potential post-credits scene would be, teasing that “there are a couple of ways it could go.” Check out Gimple’s full comment below:

“Will there be a tag scene? I just got to say, maybe. We’re up to some things, so maybe. Honestly, we’re literally just working right now on a couple of things. So there are a couple of ways it could go.”

While post-credits scenes are commonplace in the MCU, they are exceedingly rare in the world of The Walking Dead, with the last one coming at the end of The Walking Dead: World Beyond. The scene takes place in a French lab, teasing the origins of the zombie virus itself and connecting back to the very first season of The Walking Dead. The scene also acts as a potentially important piece of setup for Daryl’s (Norman Reedus) spinoff show, which is confirmed to take place in France.

It’s not clear what exactly The Walking Dead finale’s post-credits scene might be, but with Rick and Michonne’s spinoff on the horizon, in addition to The Walking Dead: Dead City, it’s possible the scene will act as an important piece of setup. While concrete details remain scarce about the Rick and Michonne spinoff, the Negan and Maggie show seems much further along in development, suggesting any post-credits scene in the main show may act to explain why and how the two characters end up in New York City. For now, however, fans don’t have much longer to wait before the final batch of episodes for The Walking Dead season 11 hits AMC.
