In a Marvel Spider-Verse filled with pretty much every kind of Spider-Hero one can imagine, the weirdest might be Widow, a literal horse with a spider-mask. The masked mammal made their first appearance in Spider-Verse #4 (2019) and showed they would be the perfect choice to make a cameo in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) animated film. The hero is hilariously bizarre as its sheer weirdness would be welcome in the much-anticipated movie.

The Spider-Verse features numerous spider-themed heroes, including Penni Parker/SP//dr, Spider-Ham, and Spider-Man: Noir, all of whom appeared in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, Marvel seems to be upping the ante with more bizarre characters in the animated film’s sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One). The film will feature the Japanese Spider-Man, Takuya Yamashiro, from the late ’70s Spider-Man series – and could feature Spider-Man 2211, ‘Ends Of The Earth’ Spider-Man, and Ben Reilly’s Scarlet Spider, all of whom the latest trailer hinted may appear. However, if Marvel wants to get really weird, they need to include Widow, a horse who might be the weirdest Spider-Man variant of them all.

As pointed out on Twitter by @gwenstacying, there’s a Spider-Verse hero who needs to appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One): Widow, the Spider-Horse. The Web-Slinger and Widow first cameoed Amazing Spider-Man before starring in their own adventure in Spider-Verse #4 (2019) by Taran Killam, Juan Gedeon, Brian Reber, and Joe Sabino. On Earth-31913, Miles Morales’ attempt to fix the Multiverse Web leads to an encounter with Web-Slinger and Widow. In one of the best Marvel Comics jokes, Web-Slinger explains he has Rider-Sense, connecting him to his horse. When Miles asks him why Widow all wears a mask, Web-Slinger tells him, “so folks don’t recognize him.”

Web-Slinger and Widow prove to make quite a formidable team, as they team up to take down El Escorpion, with the Spider-Horse knocking the gangster out cold with a powerful kick. Web-Slinger and Widow would make a handful of appearances in Spider-Verse-related stories, proving one of the weirdest Spider-Heroes was actually a badass, despite being a literal horse.

While I wouldn’t expect Web-Slinger and Widow to become main characters in a Spider-Verse-related comic or movie, it would be a lot of fun to see them appear in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One). Web-Slinger and Widow would be a welcome addition in a small cameo alongside Spider-Ham or more strange variants from across the Multiverse. The Spider-Horse would up the weirdness of the Spider-Verse in the best way.
