The Witcher has proven to be one of Netflix’s most popular releases in recent years, and one of the most popular series currently streaming across all platforms. The high fantasy series, starring Henry Cavill as the monster slayer Geralt of Rivia, is steeped in supernatural stand offs, warring kingdoms, and magical rivalries. He’s destined to find a lost princess, but along the way, he’ll be joined by the comical bard Jaskier, and the beautiful but deadly sorceress Yennefer.

Based on the popular books by Andrzej Sapkowski, the show has inspired all sorts of fan art from The Witcher community with its cosplay-worthy costumes and its sprawling medieval fantasy world. Some pieces even came out in anticipation of its release, with artists not knowing how accurate their work would end up being to finished product. Here are 10 incredible pieces of fan art based on the Netflix show.

10 THE WITCHER VS THE KIKIMORA

One of the best parts about The Witcher is watching Geralt of Rivia slay some monsters, and luckily he does that pretty early in Season 1. We see him face off against a kikimora, downing some witcher potions that make his eyes black and blue veins pop out of his neck.

Artist Patrick Brown achieved Henry Cavill’s version of Geralt of Rivia in a style that wouldn’t look out of place in a Witcher comic book or graphic novel version of the books. There’s a lot of great depth to the piece, good use of framing, and a sense of movement that pulls you into the action!

9 YENNEFER OF VENGERBERG

Here’s a portrait of the beautiful and mysterious Yennefer of Vengerberg by chimeraic. Yennefer began life as a ridiculed cripple but soon became one of the most powerful mages on the Continent. The series tells her story over several decades, but as a sorceress she barely ages at all.

Driven by ambition and power, Yennefer aims to get back at all those who underestimated her. She becomes incredibly important in the fight against the Nilfgaardian army, and also to Geralt who, while emotionally withdrawn, begins to develop feelings for the spellbinding spellcaster.

8 GERALT AND ROACH

Playing The Witcher video games ensures that Geralt spends a lot of time with Roach, his faithful mount and best friend. In the Netflix series, Roach is just as present, often being forced to carry other companions of the witcher in times of duress.

This lovely sketch by Bettina Bozsics shows a tender moment between a man and his horse, with who Geralt spends the majority of his time when he’s hunting monsters for coin. Geralt spends most of his time confiding in Roach, who always seems to know just how to understand what he needs in an understanding listener.

7 CIRI

Ciri is one of the most important characters in The Witcher, but the series doesn’t spend a lot of time with her. She spends the majority of the series escaping from the fallen city of Cintra and looking for Geralt, which artist Yako Alyarin has captured here.

As a young girl barely into her teens, Ciri doesn’t know much about the world beyond the walls of Cintra, but when her kingdom is attacked, she must flee or be taken by the Nilfgaardian army. In her wanderings, she discovers many strange creatures and people, as well as access to some mysterious powers.

6 ANIME GERALT OF RIVIA

If you’ve ever wondered what The Witcher would look like as an anime series, CaroOllie has got you covered with this piece of fan art depicting Geralt of Rivia in the style of Japanese animation. This Geralt looks a little more youthful, and a little more optimistic than his brooding counterpart played by Henry Cavill.

The artist was inspired by the style depicted in the anime “Fairy Gone”, which has a dark fantasy aesthetic that’s very similar to The Witcher. In it, soldiers wage war against each other using fairies as avatars, controlled by elite operatives.

5 YENNEFER

As a sorceress that used her magical abilities as well as her hypnotic beauty to get what she wanted on the Continent, Yennefer was a force to be reckoned with. With her beauty and brains, it’s not wonder Geralt was enthralled by her, especially if she looked as beguiling as she does in this fan art piece by CloudsDevourer.

While most of the costumes in The Witcher were made to be more practical than they appeared in the popular video game series by the same name, Yennefer got many costumes that showcased the intricacy the wardrobe department was capable of.

4 HENRY CAVILL AS GERALT OF RIVIA

While some fans of the franchise had their doubts about whether or not Henry Cavill could accurately portray Geralt of Rivia, their fears were soon laid to rest when the series premiered on Netflix. Cavill, a huge fan of the video games, fully committed to the role, performing all of his own stunts and even developing his own “Rivian” accent.

This beautiful illustration by illustrator Bettina Bozsics dates all the way back to 2018 when the announcement of Cavill’s casting swept the internet. Their interpretation of what he would eventually look like in his witcher costume isn’t too far off, minus the beard (from The Witcher 3).

3 GERALT IN PENCILS

This striking pencil sketch by gielczynski of Geralt of Rivia perfectly captures the enigmatic monster slayer as portrayed by Henry Cavill. Cavill’s pensive expression, worn like a second plate of armor, might come across as too severe for some, but his eyes often told a different story.

Much of Geralt’s dialogue was cut from the final version of the series, as showrunner Lauren Schmidt felt that Cavill could emote more with his facial expressions and body language than was necessary with superfluous lines. One look from him certainly shut Jaskier up!

2 GERALT THE MONSTER SLAYER

When Henry Cavill was cast as Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher fandom was divided into two camps; those that felt he would make a convincing Geralt, and those that thought he was far too attractive to play the rugged monster slayer. Artist Jakub Maslowski took a stab at what he felt Cavill would look like in the role.

Aside from the beard (which many fans thought he would have for the series), the rest of his interpretation isn’t too far off from what we saw. In the books as well as the video games, Geralt of Rivia is supposed to be attractive, and is always depicted as very appealing to the ladies (particularly sorceresses).

1 THE WITCHER FAN POSTER

When The Witcher premiered, there was a wide variety of fan posters being produced depicting Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, but this stark black and white poster by Julien Rico Jr  is one of the best. It isn’t over-saturated with concepts, and delivers a crisp arresting visualization of what to expect from the show.

There’s Geralt’s silhouette in the foreground between Yennefer and Ciri, the two main women in the witcher’s life, as well as the wolf, dove, and eclipse symbolism. Behind them is Henry Cavill’s profile, with a hint of those enigmatic orange eyes that are Geralt’s trademark (besides his white hair of course).
