A new mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt introduces Dark Souls-inspired backstabs and executions to the 2015 open-world RPG. The Witcher 3 has received several combat mods on PC, a number of that make enemy encounters far more challenging.

Witcher 3’s Better Combat Enhanced mod, for example, forces players to approach each situation strategically, especially since  Signs and regular sword attacks pack much less of a punch in terms of damage dealt. Ghost Mode serves as another interesting creation by the modding community, one meant to balance the experience by dividing Geralt’s armor into heavy, medium, and light categories, while also adding stamina costs and Sign cooldowns to the mix for good measure. But what happens when CD Projekt Red’s seminal RPG receives combat enhancements based around another groundbreaking role-playing franchise? In many respects, the results speak for themselves.

An all-new Witcher 3 mod, available to download on Nexus Mods (via Wccftech), takes the title’s already brutal executions to a completely different level, with heavy influences from Dark Souls gameplay. This particular experience allows Geralt to execute one-hit backstab attacks when positioned behind his enemies. Counterstriking, then attacking foes when staggered additionally results in the Witcher’s ability to trigger a finishing move modeled after those from FromSoftware’s hit series. The Dark Souls Style Execution Mod even comes packed with Dark Souls 3 SFX, according to the build’s Nexus Mods description. For a glimpse of the mod in action, check out the following:

The mod seems a little rough around the edges, particularly due to the dizzying camera movements. Still, these additions are pretty impressive, with the Dark Souls-esque backstab move arguably standing out the most.

Witcher 3 boasts its own share of brutal executions and finishers, though, a number of which CD Projekt Red introduced to the experience in a post-launch free DLC patch. The “New Finisher Animations” DLC joined the fray in July 2015, serving as the role-playing title’s 15th free add-on. Naturally, The Witcher 3’s impressive modding community continues to increase the intensity of the in-game slaughter with upgrades and enhancements of its own. Such additions seems to show no sign of slowing down, either.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is available to play now across Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
