A fan of CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has shared a video of a rare quest encounter the player had not previously seen, despite having played the game for more than 600 hours. The Witcher 3 first released six years ago in 2015, making this discovery particularly noteworthy as it seems to show The Witcher 3 still has secrets not yet discovered by its fans.

Open-world games typically highlight available quests and stories via the game map, allowing players to easily find and track the content. Not all video game quests are marked in-game though, with some developers including unlisted quests to help make the worlds feel more realistic and to reward players with rare content when discovered. CDPR is known for creating thriving and vast game worlds which, along with the main story and sidequests, often contain Easter eggs and hidden quests for players to hunt down. Adding these to a game can give players an incentive to explore the world to see what can be found. Just like The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 also includes hidden quests.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Reddit user and Witcher fan RogueRequest2 has shared video footage of a rare unlisted Witcher 3 quest involving a troll named Boris. As spotted by WeGotThisCovered, the video clip shows a cutscene featuring Geralt the Witcher speaking with Boris, who’s cooking up some soup and gifts the player an Elf Head. While it’s a junk item, it’s not a bad reward for uncovering the hidden game quest. The Redditor notes that, while they’ve played The Witcher 3 for over 600 hours in total, this was the first time they’d met Boris.

The hidden quest is an unmarked secondary quest named “Harassing a Troll,” and can be activated when saving Boris from a Nekker attack. Successfully defeating the foes will trigger the cutscene, with different dialogue options harboring different rewards. While some Witcher 3 fans will have come across the secret quest in their playthroughs already, it’s one missed by many thanks to its unmarked status on the map. The Redditor’s post has received over 4000 upvotes at the time of writing, with many Witcher fans also sharing their surprise at the rare scene. Anyone looking to discover the elusive Witcher 3 encounter for themselves can find Boris directly east of the Harpy Feeding Ground, on the other side of the shoreline.

Whether or not there’s more even content to be discovered in the current version of the game remains to be seen. However, the new-gen release of The Witcher 3 will include content that has never been included in the game before. As confirmed by CDPR, DLC for the new PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC releases of the title will include items inspired by the Netflix series. While images of the new items have yet to be revealed, players can likely expect to see in-game versions of Henry Cavill’s Witcher costume. The new-gen releases are expected later this year.
