The Witcher star Henry Cavill opens up about whether he is Team Yennefer or Team Triss in their infamous love triangle with the titular hero. Cavill stars in the Netflix adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series of the same name as Geralt of Rivia, one of the last of his kind of monster hunters as he ventures through the medieval land known as the Continent. Through his journeys, Cavill will find himself entangled in a war to stop the forces of the Nilfgaardian empire from their efforts to conquest the Northern Kingdoms and learn his destiny is intertwined with that of Cintra Princess Cirilla.

The Witcher season 2 picks up from the season 1 finale where Geralt is devastated from the seeming loss of his love Yennefer during the Battle of Sodden Hill while having finally met with Ciri. Determined to keep her safe and prepare her for what’s to come, Geralt brings Ciri back to his childhood home of Kaer Morhen while the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons all come after her and her mysterious power. With Yennefer indeed alive in The Witcher season 2 and Triss having been introduced in season 1, fans are looking forward to one element from the books coming to life in the series.

With just weeks to go until the show’s return, Digital Spy attended a red carpet event for The Witcher season 2 to speak with the stars about the next chapter in the series. When speaking with Cavill, the star was asked about his stance on the iconic fan debate between Team Yennefer and Team Triss in their love triangle with Geralt, confirming he is ultimately in favor of the quarter-elf sorceress as his love. See what Cavill said below:

“For me, when I played the games and especially when I read the books, I feel it’s always been true to Geralt’s core is Team Yennefer. Of course, the great thing about the game is that you can do whatever you want and that’s the great thing about games. But for me, even in the games, it was Team Yennefer.”

The love triangle between Geralt, Yennefer and Triss in The Witcher franchise is one of the most debated amongst its fanbase to this date. Though many generally agree that Yennefer is Geralt’s true love in both the novels and games, some have chosen fellow sorceress Triss for the more stable life she brings to the Witcher. However, the biggest debate surrounding this love triangle stems from the nature of Geralt’s memory loss about his past life, namely his relationship with Yennefer and the mythical Wild Hunt.

While it hasn’t been confirmed or teased that The Witcher season 2 will explore the love triangle, theories have been floating about that the next chapter of the Netflix series will dive into the Wild Hunt. Reports from earlier this year indicated that Sam Hazeldine had been cast for The Witcher season 2 as Eredin Bréacc Glas, the leader of the Red Riders and corporeal form of the Wild Hunt, who would serve as a recurring nemesis of Geralt and his allies, setting up the next season or the already ordered season 3 to further explore the complicated love triangle between Yennefer and Triss. Only time will tell when the series returns to Netflix on December 17.
