The Witcher season 2 saw Geralt finally meeting Ciri and taking her to his home of Kaer Morhen, where Witchers are birthed and trained to fight monsters. While there, Geralt must prepare Ciri for the dangers ahead while also learning of her darker powers that could potentially throw the world into chaos. Meanwhile, Yennefer is revealed to have survived the Battle of Sodden and seeks to be freed from her imprisonment by elves and regain her powers.

Nearly four months after the series returned to Netflix, the official Twitter account for The Witcher has revealed that production on season 3 is underway. For those familiar with both the novels and CD Projekt Red’s video games, anticipation was high for The Witcher season 2 to reunite Geralt and Yennefer following the latter’s seeming demise at the Battle of Sodden, which eventually came to be in episode 6, when he and Ciri traveled to the Temple of Melitele in the hopes of helping her control her powers. They would be briefly split up again when Yennefer and Ciri were forced to flee from fire mage Rience, later being reunited when Jaskier helps him find them though also reveals the former’s allegiance with the Deathless Mother to exchange Ciri for her powers back. This would prove to be a devastating reveal for Geralt as it affected his trust in the woman he loved, though he would have to rely on her help to expel the spirit of the Deathless Mother from possessing Ciri, which ultimately results in Yennefer getting her powers back and the trio learning of the Wild Hunt’s existence.

With The Witcher season 3 plot description indicating the trio will remain together, it creates an interesting dynamic for the forthcoming next chapter. Geralt will have to determine what his future could hold with Yennefer or whether to direct his attention to fellow sorceress Triss Merigold, whom is in love with the titular protagonist. As production on The Witcher season 3 kicks off, audiences will have to keep their eyes peeled for more exciting teases from the set of the hit Netflix series.
