The Witcher Teams With Old Spice for Bizarre Deodorant Ad

In anticipation of The Witcher season 2, Netflix has teamed up with Old Spice for a bizarre deodorant commercial that focuses on the body odor that would permeate the characters of long, long ago. The Witcher is a supernatural drama set in a medieval fantasy universe, where folklore and monsters aren’t just a thing of bad dreams. Season 2 of the sci-fi series drops on December 17, and it has already been renewed by Netflix for a third.

Ahead of the release, Old Spice has unveiled quite a unique advertisement inspired by the show. The new commercial takes place in The Witcher universe in which, aside from legends and lore, the locals must deal with the ever-present issue of poor personal hygiene. Those residing on the Continent perform a riveting song about their inability to be rid of horrible body odor. “Save us from this unholy curse,” the group sings in unison.

The Witcher-inspired commercial features actor David Broughton Davies, who had a role in season 1 as a councilman. The ad also shows that the B.O. of some locals leads to people throwing up, horses dropping their jaws, and mice running and cowering from the nastiness. The commercial is pretty genius, as hygiene practices in centuries past were known to be sub-par. Old Spice Swagger was definitely not around back in those days, even if those in The Witcher could conjure spells and defeat monsters with the use of ancient mythology. And the commercial is enough to garner more excitement for the highly-anticipated sophomore season, based on the popular books from Andrzej Sapkowski and video games by CD Projekt Red.
