The Woman In The House Across The Street From The Girl In The Window wrapped up its main story and solved its biggest mystery in the final episode, but it also set up a new story in the final scenes through a surprise cameo from an iconic actress from the psychological thriller genre. Netflix continues producing a variety of original movies and TV shows for all ages and tastes, and one of its most recent projects is The Woman In The House Across The Street From The Girl In The Window, a dark comedy thriller created by Rachel Ramras, Hugh Davidson, and Larry Dorf, and starring Kristen Bell.

The Woman In The House is mostly a parody of mystery psychological thriller movies led by women (such as The Woman In The Window, also released on Netflix), and it follows Anna Whitaker (Bell), an artist dealing with a family tragedy that happened three years ago. Alone and depressed, every day is the same for Anna: sitting with her wine, staring out the window, watching life go by without her. It all takes a turn when a handsome neighbor, Neil (Tom Riley), and his adorable daughter, Emma (Samsara Yett), move in across the street, and Anna starts to see a light at the end of the tunnel until she witnesses a gruesome murder – or so she believes.

After pretty much everyone around Anna – including herself – became a suspect in Lisa’s murder, the season finale of The Woman In The House revealed the real killer was none other than Emma, and she also killed her pregnant mother and her teacher. Emma attacked Buell (Cameron Britton) and killed her father, leading to a fight between her and Anna, who was stabbed and shot by the child. Anna ended up stabbing Emma to death, and luckily for her, her ex-husband Douglas (Michael Ealy) arrived on time and testified in her defense. After that, Anna made a full recovery, went back to painting, and reconciled with Douglas. The episode then jumps a year into the future, showing that Douglas and Anna had another child, and she was on her way to visit Sloane in New York. Once on the plane, Anna met a mysterious woman who she later found dead in the bathroom, but the body disappeared minutes later. This woman is played by none other than Glenn Close, and her cameo was the cherry on top of all the parodies and references to other psychological thrillers found in The Woman In The House.

When Anna gets to her seat on the plane, a steward offers her wine but she declines, saying she no longer drinks it – but she does drink vodka. Anna keeps mixing her medication with alcohol, and as she gets comfortable, a businesswoman arrives and tells her she’s in her seat. Anna tries to make small talk with her as the woman fixes her hair with the help of a pocket mirror, and when Anna asks her what takes her to New York, she grimly replies “business”, hinting at the woman hiding something. Anna falls asleep and awakens to find no one sitting next to her, but when she goes to the bathroom, she finds the body of the businesswoman there. However, when she returns with the steward, the body is gone and he assures her there’s no woman in seat 2A, but Anna finds her pocket mirror on her seat and simply says “bingo!”. Glenn Close’s character fits perfectly with the tone of The Woman In The House as she’s considered the queen of psychological thrillers thanks to movies like Jagged Edge and Fatal Attraction, and having her as the new victim was one final punch to the genre.

The death of Close’s businesswoman at the end of The Woman In The House leaves the door wide open for a second season, and that brief scene on the place leaves enough clues for a new story: Anna is mixing pills and alcohol again, so she could be hallucinating this woman, but there’s also the steward, who could be involved in this whole situation. Whether Glenn Close’s mystery businesswoman returns in a potential second season for The Woman In The House Across The Street From The Girl In The Window as the murder victim that triggers the story or not is unknown, but if she doesn’t, this scene could be used as just a dream of Anna’s, hinting at her mind playing games with her once more.
