One of Ghost of Tsushima’s most impressive aspects is the wide range of armors the game allows players to choose from, but not all of them are made equally. Each armor set in Ghost of Tsushima provides a different set of advantages, and because of this, not every outfit in the game is as good as the next when it comes to combat.

Players can discover new armor in Ghost of Tsushima by completing the single-player story missions as well as by exploring on their own in the open world environment and completing side-quests. As new armors become unlocked, however, the ones which were available at the start will become less appealing, as their disadvantages become more apparent.

The following armors are some of the worst pieces of apparel Ghost of Tsushima has to offer. That’s not to say they don’t confer certain abilities on Jin or may be useful in his task to reclaim the island of Tsushima from the Mongolian invaders in certain contexts, but the limited scope of their usefulness is what makes them problematic.

Armor Sets To Avoid In Ghost of Tsushima

The Broken Armor’s name makes it clear that this is one armor that won’t get players very far. It’s the first armor Jin has at the start of the game, but its uselessness becomes apparent as soon as he has another outfit to change into. The armor offers no particular abilities or benefits, and since Jin is unable to repair it throughout the game, it remains only a symbol of the challenges he’s faced.

The Ronin Attire is one of the least versatile outfits, and since its main advantage is situational, it doesn’t make it the most effective armor for combat. The outfit allows Ghost of Tsushima players to commit better stealth assassinations thanks to its slower detection speed, but much of this is dependent on being near tall grass. It’s also nothing compared to what Ghost Armor can do, which renders this outfit basically useless once players have unlocked the other armor set.

The Traveler’s Outfit is another outfit whose advantage is situational, and in this case, it’s not meant to be used in combat. It makes it easier to track artifacts while also clearing 20% of the map, but other than these perks, this armor does little to help Jin during a confrontation. Especially once players have cleared out the majority of Ghost of Tsushima’s map, and for players who aren’t interested in finding collectibles, this doesn’t help much

The Hero of Tsushima Armor is only available to those who pre-ordered the game. It offers a major increase to health and reduces damage by a moderate amount. But its main disadvantage is that it can’t be upgraded. As soon as players earn the Samurai Armor, they’ll have no incentive to reach for the Hero Armor anymore.

While there are plenty of armor sets in Ghost of Tsushima, not all of them will be helpful to players, and people focused on combat benefits should avoid these aforementioned sets once better armors are unlocked.
