Released in 2014, the first John Wick film was an instant critical and commercial hit upon release, and over the years has amassed a cult following of massive proportions. Featuring veteran Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves in the lead role, the film told the story of retired hitman John Wick, who is forced into his past routine of murder and mayhem when a bunch of gangsters kill his dog.

The most attractive and praised aspects of the film are its action sequences, which have earned the franchise a reputation as one of the best modern action thrillers. All three films were met with praise from the audience and a good box office performance, and a 4th film is in development.

9 Thanos Shouldn’t Have Snapped

The harrowing events of Avengers: Infinity War left the Marvel fandom distressed for a long time. Thanos snapped, the heroes lost, and half of all life was wiped out from the Universe.

Needless to say, the population of dogs must’ve been decreased by half too, and this probably wouldn’t have sat well with someone like John Wick. It wouldn’t be too much of an exaggeration to say that if John Wick and The Avengers existed in the same Universe, John Wick might have joined the fight against Thanos to take revenge for the lives of all the dogs.

8 Don’t Mess With People’s Dogs

“Dogs are a man’s best friend” is an immensely popular motto that almost everyone has heard, it has been around since King Frederick of Prussia first said it in 1789. And the reason why the phrase is so popular is that it is true to its every word. Dogs are one of the most loyal animal species on the planet, and humans bond with them very easily. As usual, it is only natural to feel overprotective about something or someone a person cares about.

But while most people wouldn’t go to as extreme lengths as John Wick went, it would be understandable if they tried to seek revenge.

7 The Pencil is Mightier Than The Gun

John Wick is a legend among the hitmen and underworld dwellers in the movies. And as it is always, legends come with their myths, some true and some false. One of the most famous incidents regarding John Wick is how he once killed three people in a bar with nothing but a pencil.

It’s a story that is widely circulated in the assassin community and was first spoken of during the events of the first film. And in the sequel, John Wick 2, he actually is shown to brutally murder a thug with a pencil.

6 Keanu Is Immortal

Keanu Reeves has been starring in Hollywood movies for nearly 35 years. In that time, he has appeared in movies of various genres, and the one that put him on the international map in terms of popularity was the sci-fi thriller The Matrix.

For a man more than 55 years old, he certainly looks younger than he should. More importantly, it’s almost as if he hasn’t grown that old at all since his first big-screen appearance. It has come to a point where it’s almost unbelievable how he has naturally succeeded in keeping his youthful complexion intact throughout the years.

5 Man Of Great Determination

A famous quote from the first John Wick film that is echoed in further installments and perfectly describes him. When one of John’s past associates Vigo gets to know that John is coming after his son, he tries to describe exactly how dangerous John Wick is. Vigo refers to John as “Baba Yaga” in this particular scene, and when his son recognizes the name as “The Boogeyman” Vigo corrects him, stating that John is the person you send to kill the boogeyman.

This serious conversation between the two flawlessly establishes how feared John is in the Assassin community and works brilliantly alongside this hilarious meme of a very protective brother.

4 One Of The Most Dangerous Individuals Ever

One thing that surmised from the films is that John Wick is not the kind of person to be trifled with, as that leads to lethal unintended consequences. He is greatly feared and respected at the same time in the hitmen community, and although the first movie showed him to be retired for a long time he was eventually forced into returning to his old lifestyle.

In the first film, he killed a staggering 77 people, and in the sequel, he killed almost double that amount. To be willing and more importantly, able,  to go such extreme lengths for his dog, shows how dangerous he is.

3 Not True Friendship

Excommunication is a word of Latin origin which primarily refers to the act of being kicked out from a community of people, which is what happens with John Wick at the end of the second film. It was historically used to describe a formal Catholic Christian term for being officially and formally cast out of membership in the church. At the end of John Wick 2, John kills a person inside The Continental Hotel, which is supposed to be neutral grounds where all kinds of criminal and violent activities are forbidden.

This leads to him being labeled “excommunicado”, and he is forced to go on the run.

2 He Sure Loves His Dog

John Wick’s love for his dog is what makes him come out of retirement in the first film. The domestic and universally-loved animals are a recurring species in the movie. At the beginning of the first movie, he owns a beagle gifted to him by his late wife.

But within 10 minutes into the movie, the puppy is killed, and this incident is what makes John go on a killing spree. But by the start of the second installment, he adopts another dog, a pit-bull that accompanies him throughout both the second and third film.

1 He Always Takes Vengence

The key principle theme of the first John Wick film is revenge. John’s revenge for the murder of his beloved puppy, which was a parting gift from his late wife. John’s original intentions in the first film were just to take revenge for the murder of his dog and then to again return to a peaceful life.

But things spiraled out of control, and he is forced to continue his spree of murder and mayhem for the sake of his life. Over the course of events of all three films, he has killed nearly 300 people and more will definitely fall at his end at the upcoming fourth installment.
