Lady Sif actress Jaimie Alexander is heading to Australia to begin filming on Thor: Love and Thunder. Alexander will be reprising her role in Thor: Love and Thunder after sitting the third film out. Lady Sif last appeared in Thor: The Dark World as one of Thor’s longtime friends. The actress didn’t make an appearance in Thor: Ragnarok, which is probably a stroke of luck for the character as most Asgardians and their planet were destroyed in the film.

Alexander is just one of many to join the extremely large cast. A new addition to the MCU is Christian Bale’s villain, Gorr the God Butcher who will be joined by a slew of familiar faces. Natalie Portman will be returning as Jane Foster, as will Tessa Thomspon as Valkyrie and Taika Waititi as Korg. Waititi will also be directing the film that will feature the entire Guardians of the Galaxy roster sans Gamora (Zoe Saldana), all of whom have been in Australia for quite some time.

Now, Alexander has announced that she is heading down under. The actress posted a picture of herself on Instagram getting ready to take off for Australia. Once she arrives, Alexander will likely have to quarantine for two weeks before she can join the rest of the cast. With filming already underway, Alexander will have some catching up to do.

The cast of Thor: Love and Thunder is shaping up to be an Avengers-sized ensemble and looks to explore Thor’s dynamic relationship with the characters he’s bounced off of the best. Thor’s dynamic with the Rocket Raccoon and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy was one of the best parts of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Thor began Infinity War by meeting the Guardians of the Galaxy in what is one of the funniest sequences in the film. It remains to be seen how large their role will be – with the Guardians set to get their own third feature, many have wondered if Thor: Love and Thunder will see them have minor cameos or if a larger role is in store for them.

Similarly, how large Alexander’s role is unclear and so is how she will return. How Lady Sif survived the events of Thor: Ragnarok will have to be explained at some point. Other than that, though, her role in the film remains unclear – many think she could be a possible love interest for Thor after his relationship with Jane Foster ran its course. Much of Thor’s character has been developed through his relationship with his friends and family on Asgard. That fell to the wayside once Thanos came into the picture, though, and now it looks like Thor: Love and Thunder is returning to the character’s roots with Lady Sif and the possible return of Hela, Thor’s long lost sister. With Waititi at the helm, Thor: Love and Thunder is shaping up to be another solid entry in the God of Thunder’s journey.
