Warning! Spoilers for Beta Ray Bill #2 by Marvel Comics below!

Skurge the Executioner is set to make a surprise return to the pages of Marvel Comics and his reason for not staying in Valhalla is hilarious: There weren’t any guns. In a new preview for Beta Ray Bill #2, the hero is surprised to discover he is not alone aboard his ship Skuttlebutt, learning he’s got a previously undetected stowaway, finding Skurge throwing back drinks in his galley.

Skurge was one of Asgard’s finest warriors in the comics, who became a villain and was banished from the realm after fighting against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. While he’s teamed up with some questionable characters over the years, including Hela in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Thor: Ragnarok where he was played by Karl Urban, he was eventually killed in Warm of the Realms. Last seen being taken to Valhalla, Asgard’s resting place for its greatest fallen heroes, Skurge just revealed the afterlife wasn’t for him.

In a new look at this week’s Beta Ray Bill #2 by Daniel Warren Johnson and Mike Spicer, Bill’s quest to find Odin and a new hammer continue after he left Asgard upon being upstaged by Thor. On Skuttlebutt, Bill plays Ping Pong against himself, before his ship notices activity on board, detecting the signal of a life form in its galley. The Korbinite hero investigates and discovers Skurge, drinking a beer by himself.

Bill is shocked to see Skurge, as he believed him to be dead. The executioner tells him, that yes, he did make his way to Valhalla, but had a big problem with the new place. Skurge says there are all kinds of weapons on Valhalla, such as swords, staffs, and knives, but without any guns, he seemingly bounced out of there. While Skurge is most known for carrying around a giant battle axe, his love for guns was never more apparent than in Thor: Ragnarok, where he dual-wielded rifles he hilariously named Des and Troy (destroy).

Valhalla isn’t for everyone, but Skurge’s reasoning for abandoning the Asgardian afterlife is absolutely hilarious. He wasn’t content with his weapons of choice, as there were no guns to be found. So, he left Valhalla (somehow) and returned to the mortal plane so he could play around with them. The MCU executioner makes a surprising pairing alongside Beta Ray Bill, as one is a noble warrior, while the other is a bloodthirsty maniac. It remains to be seen whether the trigger-happy Skurge is a friend or foe at this point and whether his love of guns will hinder Bill’s own journey to find a new weapon, however. Beta Ray Bill #2 will be available in comic book stores this Wednesday.
