Are the Throne Of Glass books still getting a TV show adaptation? Sarah J. Maas’ YA book series Throne Of Glass is set in the fictional world of Erilea and follows the adventures of Celaena Sardothien – a teenage assassin working under a tyrannical king whose every murderous whim she must obey to obtain her freedom. Along the way, Celaena uncovers a conspiracy about the magical forces controlling Erilea and must reconcile both her tragic past and true destiny.

Maas began publishing her Cinderella-inspired Throne Of Glass stories online via the website FictionPress where they gained a huge following and were soon picked up by Bloomsbury. The publishing house went on to release a total of seven books in the series – beginning with Throne Of Glass in 2012 and ending with Kingdom Of Ash in 2018 – alongside a collection of five prequel novellas titled The Assassin’s Blade. Several books in the Throne Of Glass series have topped The New York Times Best Sellers list, with Maas receiving rave reviews for her world-building skills and strong, relatable female protagonist.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

In September 2016 news broke Hulu was developing a TV show based on the Throne Of Glass novels titled Queen Of Shadows after the fourth book. The Mark Gordon Company was set to produce the show with Kira Snyder (whose writing credits include The Handmaid’s Tale and The 100) penning the adaptation and Anna Foerster (Outlander) set to direct the pilot. It’s been a while since Hulu optioned the series, so is the Throne Of Glass show still happening? Here’s what we know.

Sarah J. Maas Gave Fans An Update In Late 2016

Back in December 2016, Sarah J. Maas posted a picture to Instagram of a script for the pilot episode of Hulu’s Throne Of Glass adaptation. Written by Kira Snyder, the pilot was befittingly titled “Celaena.” Maas also assured fans that though the Hulu show was named Queen Of Shadows after the fourth book, it would indeed begin with the first book and cover the entire series.

The Throne Of Glass TV Show May Have Been Shelved

Since Sarah J. Maas’ update in 2016, there’s barely been a peep about the Throne Of Glass show from either Hulu or the author herself. Four years is a long time to go without any update, so it would seem the project is in limbo. That doesn’t necessarily mean the TV adaptation won’t happen. Hulu might’ve simply put the project on the back burner for the time being. However, the lack of updates doesn’t bode well for the Throne Of Glass series.
