‘Owa Owa’ has recently gone viral on TikTok, thanks to the unusual noises made by Pudgy the dog. TikTok is no stranger to helping posts and accounts go viral, but this particular four-legged friend has now even managed to create its own catchphrase that’s starting to show up on other social media platforms as well, including Instagram and Twitter.

TikTok had an eventful 2020. In spite of seeing continued and impressive growth in terms of the number of users, the app found itself at the center of a battle with the U.S. government over its ability to operate in America. With a change of administration having now taken place, it remains to be seen what lies in store for TikTok, but none of the troubles have slowed down viral content emerging on the platform.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

One of the latest accounts to go viral is @pudgywoke. The account focuses on Pudgy the dog who makes some unusual sounds. One of the most unusual is a bark which sounds a lot like someone saying ‘owa owa.’ Naturally, this has led to owa owa taking off on the platform and becoming somewhat of a catchphrase for Pudgy. Following its emergence on TikTok, owa owa has also starting showing up on other platforms as well, including the #owaowa hashtag and “can I get an owa owa” now doing the rounds on Twitter.

A New TikTok Star Is Born

The Pudgywoke account is already proving to be a mega hit. While the first TikTok video was only posted in December, the account is already filled with content. More notably, the videos are starting to rack up the views. For example, although the account’s original ‘macaroni’ video has generated just under two million views so far, most are now generating millions more, with some already in the tens of millions. With a quick turnaround of content, and each video getting the views, there seems to be clear demand for Pudgy and the owa owa bark. In another TikTok video released a couple of days after the first, Malachy James explains there’s nothing currently wrong with Pudgy to cause the unusual bark, although it did start after the TikTok sensation went missing some years before.

As mentioned, Pudgy is not only making a mark on TikTok, but also on Instagram as well. Though not to the same degree as TikTok’s 6.5 million followers and more than 180 million overall likes, the Pudgywoke handle on Instagram has already accumulated more than 100,000 followers and doesn’t look likely to slow down soon.
