Titans season 4 star Joseph Morgan teases that the HBO Max drama will explore Brother Blood’s origin story. One of DC’s most popular streaming shows that is coming back later this year is Titans, which will be heading into its fourth season. While it began on DC Universe, Titans became one of the many properties to move to HBO Max when the former shifted into being primarily a comics app. Following the war against Red Hood and Scarecrow, Nightwing and his band of heroes are moving on from Gotham City onto new adventures.

While Titans season 4 is officially coming, Warner Bros. TV and HBO Max have remained mostly quiet about what’s coming up for the show in terms of storylines. The upcoming season, which started shooting very recently in Toronto, Canada, is expected to arrive later in the year, most likely in late summer/fall. Despite storylines being kept under wraps, one of the new villains that the super-team will face comes directly from the Teen Titans mythology. Earlier this year, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals star Joseph Morgan was tapped as Brother Blood, who will be a series regular.

With Titans season 4 being deep into filming, Morgan has started sharing bits and pieces of what fans can expect to see for Brother Blood. The British actor recently stated through his Instagram stories, re-shared via @badpostitans on Twitter, his excitement to bring the iconic DC foe to life. During his segment, Morgan made it clear that while Titans season 4 will see the heroes against Brother Blood, viewers should expect to see Sebastian Sangue (a.k.a. Sebastian Blood,) sharing the following:

“So I have started shooting, we’re currently shooting episodes 1 and 2 simultaneously. What’s been hugely enjoyable for me – in fact, this is the reason I wanted to do this part in the first place – is that as you know, I’m playing a character called Brother Blood. But that’s not where he starts off, he starts his journey as Sebastian Sangue and it’s really an origin story of a villain that we’re playing out here. What’s been incredibly rewarding for me – and will continue to be, I think – is exploring how he gets from being Sebastian to becoming Brother Blood.”

This won’t be the first time that Brother Blood has been depicted in live-action, as another Greg Berlanti-produced show used him years ago. During Arrow season 2, Kevin Alejandro portrayed a more grounded take on Sebastian Blood, who did take on his villainous comic moniker. Despite the Arrowverse being more fantastical and sci-fi-based now, Arrow wasn’t able to do everything with Brother Blood due to the nature of broadcast television. Titans season 4, however, will be able to lean more into the more sinister and sadistic elements of the famous Teen Titans baddie.

Whether it was intentional or not, Titans season 3 did have a neat Brother Blood Easter egg that may have foreshadowed Sebastian’s coming arrival. The Church of Blood was briefly seen in the background during the season premiere while Tim Drake was riding his bike through the neighborhood. Whether or not Titans season 4 will tie back to that remains to be seen, but it seems very likely at this point. Brother Blood won’t be the only new villain to appear in Titans season 4 as Mother Mayhem and Jinx will appear in various capacities too. As Titans season 4 gets further into filming its 12 episodes, audiences will hopefully start to get more glimpses of what’s coming up when the show returns in 2022.
