Tom Cruise has reportedly lost thousands of dollars worth of luggage as his bodyguard’s car was stolen in Birmingham, England, where the actor is filming Mission: Impossible 7.  The upcoming action film will see Cruise reprise his role as IMF agent Ethan Hunt, a role he’s played since the first Mission Impossible movie in 1996. The film series has grossed over $3.5 billion in total and is regarded as one of Hollywood’s best action franchises. The movies are known for their high-speed car chases and death-defying stunts as Cruise’s character tries to stop a global threat.

M:I 7 also stars Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby, and Frederick Schmidt, who will all reprise their roles from the previous films. It is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the same director behind the last two titles in the franchise, Rogue Nation and Fallout. The movie is currently deep in production in England after experiencing a succession of delays due to COVID-19. It is scheduled for release on May 27, 2022.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Amid his busy filming schedule, Cruise encountered another setback as his bodyguard’s BMW X7 was reportedly stolen. According to The Express, the car vanished from its parking location at the Grand Hotel in Birmingham, England on Tuesday morning when authorities were alerted of the robbery. The luxury vehicle was shortly recovered in another city but its contents, including the actor’s luggage, were all gone. According to the publication’s sources, the 59-year-old was livid over the incident.

“Tom had been driven around in the car while in Birmingham and some of his luggage and belongings were inside it when it was taken,” one source said. “It’s since been recovered by police because it was equipped with an electronic tracking device but everything inside it had gone.”

Cruise’s top-notch security team is said to have been left embarrassed over the unfortunate incident. The BMW limo features a keyless entry and ignition system using wireless transmitters. As such, the thieves are suspected to have used a scanner to intercept the vehicle’s signals to get inside the car and drive away. Local police are currently conducting inquiries and gathering more CCTV footage.

Ironically, the high-tech heist seems to have been taken from a scene in a Mission Impossible movie. Cruise is no stranger to such ruses, which are often depicted in his action spy saga. It is truly unfortunate that his forthcoming M:I 7 has been weighed down by so many problems. The production, which began in February 2020, has already been stretched out due to the pandemic, and Cruise himself has admitted to feeling stressed about the whole situation. With all the hitches it’s encountered, M:I 7 hopefully rises to be a cinematic treat and a box office performer once it premieres next year.
