Tom Holland has been named one of GQ‘s Men of the Year for his role as Spider-Man. On December 17, Holland suits up for the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home movie, his third solo outing and his sixth overall appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His most recent appearance as Spider-Man, however, came during a major mid-credits scene for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, teasing a crossover between him and Tom Hardy’s symbiote, though the future of the character is still largely uncertain.

Since being introduced to the MCU in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War as a high-school student with spider-like powers, Holland’s Peter Parker has become progressively more powerful with each installment, defeating villains like Michael Keaton’s Vulture and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio. The latter revealed his secret identity to the world with the help of J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) during Far From Home‘s mid-credits scene and, in No Way Home, Peter turns to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to make everyone forget. After his spell goes awry, villains from alternate realities such as Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Jamie Foxx’s Electro are unleashed into the MCU.

Now, as the eagerly-awaited MCU movie’s release is just over one month away, Tom Holland has been named one of GQ‘s Men of the Year for 2021. The magazine’s 26th annual Men of the Year issue highlights those who have exhibited the heroic trait of bravery. Also named Men of the Year alongside Holland are the musician Lil Nas X and the NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. Others who will be highlighted in the issue include Andrew Garfield, Mark Hoppus, Dennis Rodman, and more.

After being cast as a relatively unknown actor, Holland’s role as the MCU’s Spider-Man has turned him into a household name, arguably even more popular than the iconic character himself. Before the MCU, Holland only appeared onscreen in the disaster movie The Impossible, the coming of age film How I Live Now, and the Moby-Dick adaptation In the Heart of the Sea. Now, as his time as Spider-Man might be coming to a close, he is set to branch out with his role as Nathan Drake in the video game adaptation Uncharted.

Holland currently isn’t contracted for any Sony-Marvel movies past No Way Home, and he has made some recent comments about the film being the end of a franchise and him being ready to pass the mantle on to another actor. Though it’s unlikely that his next film will actually be his last, whenever Holland’s reign as Spider-Man ends, he has already clearly made an incredible impact.
