In Torchlight 3, players must defend Novastraia from invasion and brave a new frontier with friends and allies. They will need to choose a class, master their powers, equip a relic to enhance their abilities, build a fort, and explore the dungeons and towns on the frontier, alone or with friends. There are four classes players get to choose from when beginning their adventure: Dusk Mage, Forged, Railmaster, and Sharpshooter. Unlike traditional fantasy classes, these options blend elements of science fiction and magic to create a more unique combat style. Players who enjoy combat with a large, heavy two-handed weapon may want to try riding into battle as a Railmaster.

The Railmaster class predominantly relies on melee combat, supplemented by the ability to lay train tracks and have a train follow the hero into battle, dealing damage to enemies using turrets. However, not all Railmaster players are going to love working with the train, and some may want to land heavier hits. If the player uses the right Relic, they can eliminate the train feature and allocate that Endurance power to rain fire and pain over enemies. Here is the best and coolest build for an AOE Railmaster who would rather not use the train in Torchlight 3.

The Best Build For Railmaster in Torchlight 3

Players who want to experience the AOE damage of the Railmaster class without sharing Endurance with the train will want to try the One-Man Wrecking Crew build. This build combines the power of the Railmaster class and its massive weapons with the Flame Destroyer Relic. This way, the player can swing their hammer and rain fire on enemies.

Apart from Basic Attack, which will be a primary damage source, there are a few core skills that make this build unique. These core skills are:

  • Pound
  • Spike Drive
  • Sword Smash
  • Summoning Smash

Pound adds an Endurance bonus buff for the player, strengthening their Basic Attacks. Players should reserve Pound as an active ability to use when the Endurance bar is full for maximum impact. Players could swap Sword Smash for Blazing Pillar if preferred; the goal with that skill is to spend Relic Energy on a powerful attack.

Players will also want to invest in several support skills for melee combat against more formidable enemies and bosses. The necessary support skills to make this build work are:

  • Nimble Flames
  • Lantern Flash
  • Blasting Charge
  • Hammer Spin

Nimble Flames will provide protection during melee and should be invested in early and often if possible. Hammer Spin will give players more mobility and allow them to escape particularly tricky situations where they may be surrounded.

Players will need a few passive skills to make this build work as well. There is one core passive, though all three are useful. These are:

  • Giant Swings
  • Energizer
  • Firestorm

Giant Swings is the core of the build, and it will increase damage from Great Weapons and Railhammers. Players should try to max this passive. Energizer will help Giant Swings generate more Relic Energy, which will help the player rain fire more frequently and with more intensity. Firestorm can be substituted out depending on a player’s style. While it adds to the amount of AOE damage done from the build, Tier 2 Synergy bonuses might be more useful for certain players.

As for gear, Railmasters on the One-Man Wrecking Crew build will want a good Great Weapon or Rail Hammer. They may want to enhance weapons with Legendarium items like Frenzi’s Blade, Battery Ram, and Storm Blade to increase the effects of their active and passive skills and deal even more damage with their weapons.

Torchlight 3is in Early Access and is available for PC. The full version is set to launch October 13 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a version coming to Switch later this year.
