In Torchlight 3, players must defend Novastraia from invasion and brave a new steampunk frontier with friends and allies. They will need to choose a class, master their powers, equip a relic to enhance their abilities, build a fort, and explore the dungeons and towns on the frontier, alone or with friends. There are four classes players get to choose from when beginning their adventure: Dusk Mage, Forged, Railmaster, and Sharpshooter. The Sharpshooter is the best choice for players who enjoy ranged fighting. They can use technology and magical trinkets to cause damage to enemies from a safe distance. Sometimes, however, ranged fighters might require a little help during a fight.

Rather than a more traditional build, players can spec their Sharpshooter to cause a little less DPS than the maximum possible, but to have an increased survivability in the most dangerous conditions with a build called You’ve Got a Friend in Me. The Sharpshooter can use the ice Relic Cold Heart to bring Ghosts, Goblins, spirits, and a giant Ice Golem to help them defeat even the most difficult enemies. Here’s how to build a Sharpshooter to receive maximum help from friends in Torchlight 3.

The Best Build For Sharpshooter in Torchlight 3

The key to the You’ve Got a Friend in Me build is the Cold Heart Relic. With this Relic equipped, the Sharpshooter can call upon several allies. The core skills of the build all involve summoning, effectively letting the Sharpshooter create an army. The core skills for the build are:

  • Rizzi’s Fate
  • Loyal Shasta
  • Ice Golem
  • Goblin Legion

Players should fully level Rizzi’s Fate, as it is the core active skill in the build. It also slows down enemies that pass through the conjured character. Loyal Shasta can taunt enemies, drawing them away from the hero so they can continue shooting. The other two skills, Ice Golem and Goblin Legion, allow the sharpshooter to summon other friends to help, both with burst damage and eventually ranged fighting.

The Sharpshooter also requires some support skills in this build. After all, they can’t rely on their friends for everything. The needed support skills are:

  • Basic Attack
  • Tight Grouping
  • Ice Shield
  • Ghost Visage
  • Sacrifice to Goose

Tight Grouping will take advantage of the Sharpshooter’s Adventurer Bonus effects and will do more damage, while Basic Attack will allow the character to always be shooting. Ghost Visage allows players to escape when surrounded. For a ranged fighter with so many friendly helpers, this may not be needed. Players can substitute Cold Front here if they prefer. Ice Shield will make the Sharpshooter virtually invulnerable for a few hits, and Sacrifice to Goose will boost damage done by both the Sharpshooter and their army of helpers.

The You’ve Got a Friend in Me build also has a few mandatory passives players need to pick up. These are:

  • Frost Skin
  • Large Bores
  • Energizer

Frost Skin will allow the invulnerability effect that’s part of Ice Shield to be restored over time, keeping the Sharpshooter more invulnerable to attacks. Energizer will allow the player to use Ice Golem and its massive burst attacks more frequently. Large Bores helps supplement Basic Attack and Ice Golem’s slam.

As for gear, the player will want to use a bow or any of the steampunk firearms available. In the Legendarium, they will want to pick up Ryeful of Leadership, which will add more ranged attackers to those the Sharpshooter summons. They will also want Shasta’s Promise to make Shasta almost invulnerable as a tank and allow her to taunt enemies and restore health. Finally, the Sharpshooter will need The Ancient One’s Token to summon two more ghostly pets, Bijou and Sumon, to help in the Sharpshooter’s fight.

Torchlight 3 is in Early Access and is available for PC. The full version is set to launch October 13 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a version coming to Switch later this year.
