Toy Story 4 hit theaters recently, and the buzz has been very positive. Among other things, it seems this sequel will introduce a bunch of new toy characters, including the bizarre Forky and Keanu Reeves’ much anticipated Duke Kaboom. With many of the toys appearing to be prizes in a traveling carnival, it begs the question: how much would you really want the Toy Story toys?

If you were a kid (or if you are, thanks for reading, kids!), which of the Toy Story toys would truly be the most fun to own? Keep scrolling for a list of all the main Toy Story toys, ranked by how fun they would be to play with.

10 Hamm

Hamm is definitely an appealing character, no argument there. As voiced by Pixar good luck charm John Ratzenberger, Hamm can liven up any scene with a well-placed quip or sarcastic remark. Beyond his on-screen persona, though, Hamm is not the most appealing toy.

It is not immediately clear whether Hamm is porcelain or plastic, though his flexibility of movement seems to suggest the latter. Either way, Hamm is still a piggy bank, and barely even a toy. While there is something charming about the minimalism of his design, beyond coin storage, Hamm has no features to speak of. We love the character, but even so, as a toy, Hamm is a bust.

9 Bo Peep

Speaking of characters who aren’t technically toys, Bo Peep has to take the crown in this regard. Actually a porcelain lamp, Bo Peep is pushed into “damsel in distress” roles by both Andy and the films themselves.

Toy Story 4 looks like it gave her more to do, and it will be interesting to see how that film navigates her more lamp-like qualities. Still, Bo Peep’s design and craftsmanship make her a memorable Toy.

8 Mr. Potato Head/Mrs. Potato Head

Being known as classic characters, you may be scratching your head at how low this couple ranks on the list, but this is mostly due to the strength of the rest of the cast. Even beyond there hilarious in-universe personalities, the Potato Heads are fun and expressive toys.

Not only do their replaceable body parts provide endless creative possibilities, but the default expressions of this married couple also have a lot of personalities. Both look pretty silly, but Mrs. appears a little sweeter, and Mr. a little more dastardly. It’s no surprise Andy cast him as the villainous”One-Eyed Bart” during play sessions.

7 Slinky

The Slinky may have been a passing fad, but Slinky Dog is here to stay. While he may not have the most lines or screen time, Slinky has to be the most useful toy in the trilogy. Often used as a bridge, a ladder, or whatever else the Toys need to get around, Slinky has helped his pals too many times to count.

This shows, at the very least, his durability as a consumer product. Even after 20 years, Slinky’s springy coils can serve a play session in all kinds of ways. A new ride at Disneyland is even based around the idea of Andy outfitting him into a toy-sized rollercoaster.

6 Jessie

Memorably introduced in Toy Story 2, Jessie the Yodellin’ Cowgirl originates from the same vintage cowboy show that Woody came from. With an offbeat, friendly design, Jessie’s cowgirl spirit is captured completely at first glance.

Like Woody, though, she might not have the flexibility of other toys in fitting into imaginary scenarios. Hamm, Rex and Potato Head can fit in anywhere, but Jessie can pretty much just play a cowgirl. Still, it’s hard to think of another toy in these films whose look has so much personality.

5 Woody

The top toy himself, Woody is one of the most iconic designs in the entire Pixar canon. Appearing to be based on Howdy Doody, Woody is about 100 times more appealing and comes close as the perfect animated distillation of Tom Hanks.

Sheriff Woody is a great character and a great design, but in ranking this list, the on-screen character has to be separated from the toy itself. Sometimes that means killing your darlings or at least ranking them at number five.

4 Rex

Dinosaurs are rad. It’s undeniable. Rex’s design both accentuates their radness and slyly subverts it. While Rex is a T-Rex, and his plastic body is pure ’90s excellence, his goofy smile creates an interesting effect. It implies that Rex is a kind toy, and maybe even struggling against his carnivorous nature.

That’s so much great narrative to work with in a play session. Cast Rex as a villain and have his smile be a creepy affectation, or as a hero fighting against his carnivorous urges. The possibilities are endless. No other toy in Andy’s room implies such inner conflict. Also, dinosaurs are rad.

3 Pizza Planet Aliens

Since first glimpsed in a Pizza Planet arcade machine, these green aliens have become one of the most recognizable faces in the Toy Story verse. Inspiring many a piece of tie-in merchandise themselves, the Pizza Planet aliens perfectly capture the simplicity of a kids’ meal toy.

Cute, fun to squeeze, and seemingly coming in packs, the Aliens are the perfect toys to flesh out any imaginary army, good or evil.

2 Bullseye

Bullseye may be unable to talk in the Toy Story films, but that doesn’t mean he’s lacking in character. The opposite, in fact, Bullseye’s hyperactive personality is perfectly reflected in his enthusiastic and appealing design.

Bullseye appears to be a plush toy, though he is still firm enough to carry many of the toys on his back. This is sure to make any play session at least ten times more exciting. Providing the Toy Story sequels with many of their most exciting chases, Bullseye would surely to do the same for any playtime scenario.

1 Buzz

Don’t lie to yourself. We may have all been rooting for our pal Woody, but when the film was over, everyone wanted a  Buzz Lightyear. His wings. His spaceship. His sweet cartoon. His awesome video game. Even Buzz’s durability is a plus, giving him the ability to perform countless stunts throughout the films.

Buzz can play a dashing hero or an imposing villain, and his supporting cast (the pizza planet aliens and Zurg) is unmatched. He may only be able to fall in style, but what style he has.
