The Transformers movies are beloved, above all else, thanks to their action-packed battles between Autobots and Decepticons. Every movie lets you feel the immense weight of these titanic walking robots and the destructive capacity that they are capable of releasing onto the world and its denizens.

However, the Autobots and Decepticons have a few members in their ranks who have managed to win more battles than they’ve lost. Some of them have appeared in every single movie thanks to their endurance and combat abilities.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Bumblebee

Bumblebee is the heart of the entire franchise, so much so that he’s the only Autobot to get a movie that specifically focuses on his exploits. To make it through six entire movies where a dozen of your comrades have died from Decepticon attacks means you need to be one of the best Autobots.

Bumblebee is incredibly well-armed despite being one of the “covert” Autobots, wielding a plasma cannon that disables the likes of Brawl, Nitro Zeus and Mohawk, fight off tankier looking Decepticons in close quarters combat such as Blitzwing and Rampage. While his smaller size (for a Transformer) affects his chances against bigger threats, he’s still one of the few Autobots to make it through every single movie.

Shockwave

Shockwave’s reputation is made clear the moment he is introduced. His reputation is so known that even Optimus notes his presence as a really bad sign. While his weapons are intimidating, his real strength is his experiments, the most powerful of which was the Driller.

The Driller singlehandedly topples entire buildings by simply moving through them, and it takes a modified Optimus to put it down. In anger, Shockwave manages to take Optimus out and holds his own incredibly well throughout the fight, though he does get defeated eventually.

Ironhide

Ironhide is the resident weapons specialist of the Autobots, and he is more than happy to prove why he is to anybody who asks. His arsenal of heavy weaponry has turned the tide in many battles for the Autobots, and facing him head-on is not recommended to anybody who wishes to remain bullet-free.

His strength and heavy firepower have gotten Ironhide through the first 3 movies of the franchise, and the only way he was defeated was because of a surprise attack by a person he called his friend, Sentinel Prime. Sentinel Prime was wise to do this because Ironhide would have proved more than a challenge otherwise.

Devastator

A massive combiner composed of five absurdly angry Decepticons. Every movement is sheer agony for this creature, and it turns that agony into rage towards every other living thing in its vicinity. Few Transformers could ever hope to rival the destruction that Devastator brings to the battlefield.

His only drawback is his sheer size does make him sluggish and easy to maneuver around, and dodging is impossible. Still, it took an experimental railgun to destroy the behem0th, but not without massive costs to the hero’s side and those poor pyramids.

Grimlock

Age of Extinction finally introduces the fan-favorite King of the Dinobots, a legendary warrior feared by every Cybertronian who knows of his name. Grimlock was found inside Lockdown’s cells, but after shaking off the “rust” so to speak, he immediately challenges Optimus.

Although Optimus bests Grimlock, Grimlock soon proves why he is a legendary warrior by decimating the Decepticon forces that had been giving the Autobot team so much trouble. His sheer size, strength, and durability mean he is capable of widespread destruction, and it takes a lot to put him down.

Megatron

Megatron is many things, but if he had to be described with one word, it would be inevitable. Despite losing most of his fights against Optimus, Megatron always comes back roaring for another fight. His ruthlessness is unrivaled, and he’s not below dishonorable tactics to stay ahead of his enemies.

Megatron was able to overpower boisterous bruisers such as Jazz and Hound with relative ease, and none of the Autobots besides Optimus himself ever poses an actual threat to him. Every form he takes is more powerful than the last, and his next appearance is surely going to continue the trend.

Optimus Prime

Optimus Prime is the most iconic of all Transformers, and in every movie, he proves exactly why. His martial skill is near unmatched except by the most powerful of foes, or by overwhelming numbers. However, he is by no means the greatest fighter. The likes of Sentinel Prime, a legendary hero, and Lockdown, an infamous bounty hunter, have bested him twice each.

However, Optimus’s most important asset is his allies. His charisma and compassion (for those worthy of it) have meant every time he is close to death, someone is willing to risk their necks to save his life. To his credit, Optimus always takes that chance to land the finishing blow on the big bad every time.

Sentinel Prime

Sentinel Prime was the surprise villain of Dark of the Moon, and he manages to defeat two of the strongest Autobots in short order. His killing of Ironhide and defeat of Optimus Prime establish how huge of a threat Sentinel Prime is. He even defeats Optimus twice, and both times through fighting ability alone.

The only reason Sentinel Prime loses by the end is because of Megatron’s betrayal right as Sentinel was about to land the killing blow on Optimus. Sentinel Prime was one of the most dangerous global threats in the entire franchise, as his plan to destroy the world got closer than any of the other plans had reached.

Lockdown

Out of all the villains in the series, Lockdown is one of the few who can claim to have defeated Optimus Prime cleanly. No gang of Decepticons to help him whittle Optimus down. No shock from a former mentor turning on you and affecting Optimus’ mental game. Lockdown is just that good at fighting.

Lockdown defeated Optimus Prime with relative ease twice, a feat most other villains can’t even claim besides Sentinel Prime. His huge arsenal of weaponry, plus his cold and methodical approach to fighting, makes him the most dangerous lone Cybertronian roaming the starts. It’s no wonder it took Bumblebee, three humans distracting him, and a surprise attack from Optimus to finally take him down.

Quintessa

Quintessa is much, much higher above than the rest of the other Cybertronians fans have seen in the franchise so far. She describes herself as the “Prime of Life”, the creator of Cybetronians. Her vast powers, far beyond any of the other Cybertronian antagonists that fans have seen, seem to support her statements. Being able to restrain Optimus with little effort then brainwash him is no small feat, after all.

However, she is also known as the Great Deceiver, and despite her vast powers, her true talents lie in manipulation. She’s still leagues above most of the Cybertronians on their own in a straight fight of course, and it’s debatable whether Bumblebee’s blast did any real damage, or if it was just another one of her plans, seeing as she’s alive and well by the end of the movie. Only time will tell the extent of her powers.
