Transformers Star Cast In John Green Movie Adaptation

Casting has finally begun for Turtles All The Way Down, starting with Transformers: The Last Knight’s Isabela Merced. The film is an adaptation of the John Green novel of the same name. Green has become a big name in young adult fiction in the past decade as the writer of The Fault In Our Stars and Paper Towns, both of which were later made into popular films. Turtles All The Way Down originally began production in 2019 with the recruitment of director Hannah Marks, as well as writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger. However, there has been very little news about the film since.

Now, THR reports that Transformers actress Merced has been cast as protagonist Aza Holmes, a 17 year old girl struggling with anxiety. Exploring themes of mental health, the story of Turtles All The Way Down sees Aza reconnect with her childhood crush, which proves to be a life-changing event. The HBO adaptation will be produced by Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey and Isaac Klausner. Merced is considering a rising Hollywood star, recently appearing as Dora in Dora and the Lost City of Gold in 2019 and as Lucky in Spirit Untamed in 2021.

Production for Turtles All The Way Down has been “put on the fast track” after being picked up by New Line Cinema and is scheduled to begin shooting in April. The film is will debut on HBO Max, though no official release date has been announced. With the pace at which production seems to be going, fueled by the rising popularity of the streaming site, fans might be able to expect the Turtles All The Way Down adaptation sometime in late 2022. After so many years in production purgatory, a major update like Merced’s casting is likely a relief to many.
