Tribes of Midgard isn’t meant to be beaten on a player’s first attempt, meaning a back door like the Bifrost is incredibly useful. Players are meant to complete the game a couple of times before they become prepared enough to reach the true end. Every time a player fails, though, they lose everything that they have collected up to that point.

The whole point of the Bifrost in Tribes of Midgard is to offer a loophole. This will allow players to keep some of the items they have earned throughout their playthrough and use them for the next attempt. Players will have to find the Bifrost in Tribes of Midgard before they can use it, and they will want to be strategic about using it.

How to Unlock & Use the Bifrost in Tribes of Midgard

The Bifrost in Tribes of Midgard is a sort of magic portal that will end a playthrough without forcing the player to die or win. When players’ villages are on the brink of destruction, players can choose to use the Bifrost to leave the game without losing all their items and progress, especially Golden Horns. Mechanics like the Bifrost exemplify Tribes of Midgard’s unique take on the survival genre by giving players a choice and helping them avoid a loss of progress after working hard in-game.

The Bifrost is not open automatically in a game of Tribes of Midgard, and players will need to wait until they have unlocked it to use it. To unlock the Bifrost, players will need to survive through Day three and defeat the Jötunn Giant boss that will attack the village. This also has to be done on normal mode, not easy. If players can achieve this, the location of the Bifrost will appear on their world map. It is indicated by a crown-like icon. It will usually spawn fairly close to the player’s encampment, but it won’t appear in the same place every time.

Once players have the location of the Bifrost unlocked on their map, they will be able to travel there and use it. Selecting the Bifrost will automatically end the game and make the player restart, so unless players are struggling and in need of items and upgrades, they shouldn’t use it when they first find it. Only if players are on the cusp of catastrophe or afraid of how the next day will play out should they reach for the Bifrost.

Players should prioritize keeping Golden Horns to use for items and upgrades in their next Tribes of Midgard playthrough if possible. This will allow them to gain an advantage in their next playthrough and progress further with each subsequent game. In this case, saving anything is often better than losing it all.

Tribes of Midgard is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
