Twilight: Jasper Used His Powers On Alice – Theory Explained

All vampires in Twilight have special powers, which they use on different occasions, either during fights, to help humans and other vampires, or to manipulate others, and a fan theory suggests that Jasper has been using his to control Alice all along. Vampires and werewolves are two of the most beloved creatures in pop culture, and as such, they have been adapted to all types of media, with each author giving them their unique touch, but none can compare to what Stephenie Meyer did in her Twilight series. Formed by four novels, the Twilight series chronicles the romance between vampire Edward Cullen and mortal Bella Swan, who came across different obstacles, such as a pack of werewolves and other vampire covens.

Twilight became a worldwide phenomenon, building a solid fanbase that continues to be active to this day, and who revisit the books and movies quite often. The arrival of The Twilight Saga to the world of streaming has reignited interest in the story of Edward and Bella, but it has also raised some serious questions about the characters, their powers, motivations, and more, making way for some interesting and in some cases alarming fan theories. Among those is one about Jasper Hale’s powers, as some fans believe he has been manipulating his partner, Alice Cullen, for years.

As mentioned above, all vampires in the Twilight universe have unique powers, as when they transform into vampires, their strongest human trait is enhanced, becoming their special ability. Jasper happens to have some of the most interesting powers in Twilight, as he has pathokinesis, the ability to sense and change the emotions of those around him. This power comes from his charisma as a human, and as intriguing as it is, Jasper has to be very careful as to not manipulate those around him constantly, as he can risk creating a false reality of them by having them feel what he wants. This is the core of a fan theory that suggests he has been manipulating Alice’s feelings for years, keeping her happy and by his side.

The theory uses Jasper’s backstory as the basis, pointing out that Jasper joined the Confederate Army when he was young (and still human). The author makes a lot of emphasis on this by describing Jasper as “racist, murderous, low moral code” due to his past. Now, Alice has the power of subjective precognition, which allows her to see into the future, which is how she knew she would meet Jasper. Alice and Jasper met in a small diner in Philadelphia, and as Alice had already seen him, she approached Jasper, who was shocked at how her joyful emotions impacted him. The theory, then, suggests that Jasper decided to make her fall in love with him (because of his “low moral code”). For this, Jasper keeps her “cheerful and bubbly” despite her complex and tragic human past, and by keeping her happy, he ensures that she stays with him. Another possibility is that, in an effort to forget her past, Jasper has manipulated her emotions for years, becoming Alice’s sort of “favorite addictive drug”.

No matter the reason, if Jasper has indeed been manipulating Alice into loving him and being happy, this would be one of the biggest red flags in the Twilight universe. Fans and those not on board with this universe have pointed out for years how toxic the relationship between Edward and Bella was, but it might be worth paying some extra attention to Alice and Jasper’s history next time you re-read and re-watch these stories, and in the end, as happens with most fan theories, it’s up to fans to decide if Jasper has been manipulating Alice’s feelings or not.
