Prominent Twitch streamer FaZe Cizzorz has been banned from the streaming platform, likely thanks to the recent wave of DMCA takedowns. The FaZe Clan is no stranger to online bans. Earlier this year, FaZe Jarvis was banned from Fortnite, only to return to the battle royale and get banned a second time. This breach of conduct was revealed as an elaborate prank in a bid for internet infamy.

Twitch has been undergoing a brutal purge of content over the past few weeks, following a slew of DMCA strikes targeting streamers who were playing licensed music. Twitch overreacted to these DMCA strikes in a big way, bringing down streams and VODs en masse, giving streamers absolutely no recourse for saving their content. In Twitch’s desperation to avoid legal repercussions, the website unleashed a second wave targeting partnered streamers, some of whom got banned after incurring multiple DMCA strikes. Some streamers, like Fortnite streamer Clix, claimed that they had been hit with strikes even though they’d followed all the guidelines that Twitch provided them. The general consensus seems to be that it’s safer not to play music at all.

It looks like the latest target of Twitch’s frantic bans is Twitch partner FaZe Cizzorz. The ban was reported by Twitter bot StreamerBans, which notes that not only is he a Twitch partner, but that this is the first ban he’s ever suffered on the platform. No official reason for the ban has been given, but the DMCA strikes seem to be a very likely culprit. At the time of this writing, Cizzorz has posted only one Tweet since the ban, but it’s not exactly an illuminating one. The Tweet reads, in its entirety, “Banned on Twitch.” Cizzorz has kept entirely silent on the matter since this one brief remark.

Assuming the DMCA takedowns are the reason behind Cizzorz’s ban, it’s just further evidence of how harmful and disruptive these bans are. Twitch has been mishandling the situation from the very first DMCA takedown, overcorrecting to avoid legal action at the direct expense of its content creators. Twitch also hasn’t been communicating effectively with its users over these bans, choosing instead to leave them in the dark as it promotes the new Golden Kappa emote. With each ban, viewers are getting more and more restless and frustrated.

Twitch is no stranger to controversy. The website has made a lot of unpopular and frankly baffling decisions over the years. Recently it took a lot of flak for testing out a midroll ad system which interrupted live streams to play commercials. Viewers were understandably outraged to have their streams interrupted at critical moments by trivial commercials, and Twitch thankfully removed them. Hopefully the streaming service hasn’t stopped listening to fans. Disadvantaged streamers like Cizzorz can only hope that Twitch comes to its senses before long.
