A new rumor claims Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games has begun work on multiple PlayStation exclusive games; however, neither the studio nor Sony have corroborated as much. Until Dawn counts among the more interesting PlayStation exclusives from the last generation in that it didn’t even begin as a PS4 title. Supermassive initially started production on PS3 with PS Move support in mind, an angle that fell to the cutting room floor during the development of the 2015 slasher project.

It finally hit store shelves late in the summer of 2015, a strange release window considering Halloween was only a couple of months away. Regardless, Until Dawn instantly became a cult hit of sorts on the platform, garnering widespread acclaim and seemingly taking even Sony by surprise. To the chagrin of many a Blackwood Mountain explorer, such success didn’t result in a proper sequel, though fans were later treated to two Until Dawn universe-set experiences – VR games Until Dawn: Rush of Blood and The Inpatient. Despite Supermassive Games’ apparently ongoing deal with publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment for The Dark Pictures Anthology, rumors suggest the studio has once more entered a partnership with PlayStation.

Twitter user and business analyst Roberto Serrano (via PlayStation Universe) recently claimed Supermassive Games is presently hard at work on “several new unannounced PlayStation exclusives.” Should Serrano’s statement prove accurate, one of the supposed projects could receive a formal reveal sometime this year. And given Supermassive’s pedigree as a VR developer, it wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise if at least one endeavor took the form of a PlayStation VR 2 adventure. Serrano’s post on the matter reads as follows:

Despite Nordisk Games acquiring a 30 percent stake in the Guildford, UK-based team, Supermassive maintains its independence; thus, nothing is keeping it from partnering with Sony yet again. Still, it’s worth noting the studio did sign an eight-game deal with Bandai Namco for The Dark Pictures Anthology, only three of which have hit store shelves. That the most recent release, House of Ashes, marked the end of a previously unheard of Season 1 arc raises questions about the anthology’s future.

As mentioned above, if Supermassive is developing projects in a second-party capacity for PlayStation, it seems safe to assume one will constitute a VR release. There exists a single title on the minds of many a Supermassive Games fan, however – Until Dawn 2. Might the crew finally return to the beloved slasher franchise for a proper sequel? One can only hope.
