With so many cliffhangers after the Upload season 2 finale, audiences will have to wait for the next installment to know the fate of their favorite characters. Returning for its second season three episodes shorter than the previous one, Upload continued with the same tone and pacing that made the show a perfect mix of comedy, drama, and even a little suspense. Following the end of season 1, Upload season 2 saw Nathan having to walk away from Nora and deal with Ingrid’s arrival in Lakeview.

Most of the season 1 cast returns for Upload season 2, as does producer Greg Daniels. Ingrid’s apparent upload to the digital afterlife was as chaotic as viewers imagined it would be, and the character’s possessive behavior towards Nathan will continue to have consequences in a possible Upload season 3. After Lakeview introduced the possibility of its residents becoming parents, the idea of building a family with Nathan – even if in the digital world – set the tone for most of Ingrids’ storylines in Upload season 2. After failing to convince Nathan to have a child, Ingrid will try a different way to raise a family with the man she loves in Upload season 3.

The question of who killed Nathan seemed to have been resolved, but the end of Upload season 2 revealed that there was more to the story than audiences imagined. The reveal that it was David Choak who ordered Nathan’s death surprised viewers, and it will continue to affect the show in a possible Upload season 3. Is Upload Season 3 Happening? Renewal Updates

Upload season 3 has not yet been confirmed by Amazon. This isn’t necessarily a cause for concern for fans of the show, as it usually takes some time for certain Amazon productions to have a next season announced. That said, it probably won’t be long before Amazon announces whether Upload season 3 will happen. For comparison, Upload season 2 was confirmed only one week after the release of season 1.

How Upload Season 2 Sets Up Season 3’s Story

Based on how season 2 ends, Upload season 3 needs to happen. The Upload season 2 ending left several loose plot threads that need to be resolved. While the main hook for Upload season 3 is the fact that Nathan’s new artificial body could fail and explode at any moment, there are two other potentially big storylines set up by the end of season 2: Ingrid has Nathan’s DNA, and Horizon has a backup consciousness of Nathan being uploaded back to Lakeview.

Upload season 3 could see Ingrid trying to get pregnant with Nathan in Lakeview or even in the real world through his DNA as she suggested at the end of season 2. Another theory is that Ingrid will order another artificial body for Nathan in Upload season 3, this time with some sort of control of the ex-boyfriend’s conscience. More importantly, the fact that Lakeview and its dystopian sci-fi setting will have its own version of Robbie Amell’s character independent of the one in the real world will make for at least two Nathans existing at the same time in Upload season 3.

When Upload Season 3 Could Release

Upload season 3 may take a while to release if confirmed by Amazon. For comparison, Upload season 1 premiered in May 2020 while season 2 premiered in March 2022. It is worth noting that the pandemic has delayed many productions, which means that Upload season 3 will not necessarily take those same almost two years to happen. All that considered, a solid prediction for the Upload season 3 release date would be somewhere in the first quarter of 2023.
