A new Superman LEGO minifigure will soon be available for fans to purchase, but it isn’t Kal-El. This minifigure is of another Kryptonian: Val-Zod. He is the Superman of Earth-2, with all the standard abilities of Clark Kent. The announcement is a sign that DC’s official minifigure offerings are definitely expanding.

LEGO has released numerous superhero sets over the years, including many based on the DCEU, the MCU, and animated series for both comic publishers. However, both DC and Marvel have numerous other characters in their arsenal that have yet to be made into official minifigures. Now, DC is getting a new one that many fans may not be familiar with yet, one who could eventually make a DCEU appearance.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On Twitter, DC Comics writer Tom Taylor shared a close-up look at a new LEGO minifigure that will release in 2022. These images show an official Val-Zod minifigure, which will be available with the newest edition of the LEGO DC Character Encyclopedia. Val-Zod has never received an official minifigure before, making this a particularly notable one. He also has not appeared in a major DC movie or shows yet, though an HBO Max series is in the works. Nonetheless, he is an amazing character worthy of joining any LEGO fans’ minifigure collections ahead of his screen debut. Even in LEGO form, Val-Zod is easily recognizable, sporting a Superman suit with a silver and red color scheme for his logo instead of red and yellow or gold.

The LEGO Character Encyclopedias frequently come with exclusive minifigures. In years past, the DC edition included one of Pirate Batman, while Star Wars editions have had exclusive Yoda, Darth Maul, and Finn minifigures. This minifigure of Val-Zod is a must-have for Superman comic fans. Val-Zod debuted in comics in 2014 in Earth 2 #19. He is a Kryptonian, like Kal-El, who had the same origin as his Earth-Prime counterpart. Val-Zod was included in the major 2015 comic event, Convergence and also briefly appeared in DC Rebirth when he was kidnapped by Prophecy. He was saved by Justice League Incarnate, who recently received their own limited comic book series. Thus far, Val-Zod has not been seen in DC’s new Infinite Frontier era, but there’s still plenty of time for him to make an appearance.

Val-Zod is likely to see a resurgence in interest as more details are revealed about the Val-Zod series from HBO Max, which has Michael B. Jordan attached as an executive producer. Val-Zod is known for being a Black Superman, though he isn’t the only one. Calvin Ellis is also a Black Superman who lives on Earth-23, where he serves as the president of the United States. In the future, LEGO could have many more diverse comic characters available in minifigure form, especially as DC releases more film and television projects that help introduce fans to other, less-known comic characters. Fans can add this new official Val-ZodLEGO minifigure to their collections when the LEGO DC Character Encyclopedia releases on May 17, 2022.
