Designing impressive bases has become a popular way to show off building skills in Valheim. The low-poly survival simulation is set in a stunning Viking world with beautiful natural landscapes. Valheim offers players the ability to build complex structures to use as bases, and many fans of the game have taken to recreating structures and locations from other games or movies. Because of the overall art style of Valheim, and the look of the finished builds, Lord of the Rings has become a particularly popular choice for themed base building.

Taking on a Lord of the Rings-inspired Valheim build isn’t for the faint of heart. Many of these structures are complex and require patience, a massive amount of resources, and a good grasp of the building mechanics in the game. Players may choose to build on their own or reach out to friends for help collecting the needed woods and stone, as well as assembling the structures. Massive builds in Valheim are also known to cause issues on servers, adding to the difficulty of producing these recreation masterpieces.

While many builds can be done with Valheim mods like Buildshare or Forever Build on NexusMods to make things less frustrating, Valheim bases built without mods are particularly impressive. Players can also download prebuilt structures to use as the foundation for their own creative projects, or to view the craftsmanship of other players while playing on their own personal servers. Many fans have taken the challenge to build without the use of mods to prove massive, intricate builds can be done with the base mechanics provided in Valheim. Below is a list of large-scale builds inspired by Lord of the Rings locations that fans of Middle-earth are likely to be impressed by.

Valheim Lord Of The Rings Build – The Golden Hall of Meduseld

Built by Obedientsilver on Reddit, the Golden Hall of Meduseld is located in Edoras of Rohan. In the Lord of the Rings films and novels, this location was where Gandalf released King Théoden from the grasp of Saruman. It is also the base of the Rohirrim, the cavalry of Rohan. The Golden Hall was given its name because its roof was built with straw, giving it a golden glow when seen in the sunlight.

Unfortunately, the thatched roofing in Valheim doesn’t have the ability to glow gold for players, but the careful beam work in this build makes up for the missing lighting. Because the location is used as a feast-hall and meeting place in the Lord of the Rings storyline, it serves as an excellent mighty base for Valheim players, as well as a stunning build.

Valheim Lord Of The Rings Build – Helm’s Deep

Designed and reimagined by TheDarkoParadox on Reddit, this Valheim recreation allows players to wander the Lord of the Rings fortress of Helm’s Deep. Known as the iconic battleground for The Two Towers, Elves and Men came together to take on the growing evil armies of Sauron. The Fortress has several ramparts and is set deep into the side of the mountains, which can be seen from the aerial view of this Valheim build. This recreation of Helm’s Deep was placed in the harsh mountainous biome of the Valheim map for added effect. The only thing missing is the Elven archers and the swordsmen defending the gate.

Valheim Lord Of The Rings Build – Barad-dur

Built by Modder Rynborg on NexusMods, Barad-dur can be downloaded and added to Valheim servers to stand tall and menacing over the land. Otherwise known as “Sauron’s Eye,” Barad-dur is the iconic presence Sauron has over the realm of Middle-earth, as well as his stronghold.

From the first movie as a gloomy danger looming in the distance, to the third movie as the battleground for the final stand against Sauron, Barad-dur is a well-known location for most Lord of the Rings fans. Because this is a massive structure, players may want to consider placing the Barad-dur on a new map, to prevent damage to an existing save with extensive personal builds already present.

Valheim Lord Of The Rings Build – Orthanc

Built by PepsiDrunker on Reddit, the Orthanc is the massive tower found in Isengard. This build is a particularly massive Lord of the Rings recreation within Valheim, and one that towers over the trees of the biome. The Orthanc is the fortress in which Saruman orchestrates his schemes as he turns against those he is meant to protect, after giving in to the thrall of Sauron. The Orthanc is liberated after a gruesome battle with the Ents, and the final resting place of the corrupted Saruman. While this Orthanc recreation isn’t the birthplace of any Orcs, it can be a majestic stronghold for Valheim players.

Valheim Lord Of The Rings Build – Bag End

While not a towering stronghold, MrBegonia on Reddit has recreated the well-known Lord of the Rings location, Bag-end. Home of both Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, Bag-end is located in the Shire. The humble hobbits live in simple structures, and while this version of Bag-end isn’t tucked under a hill, the overall rounded frame and portal acting as a circular door are plenty impressive for a Valheim base design. Bag-end is the iconic starting place for both the Hobbit trilogy and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is inherited by Samwise Gamgee when Frodo chooses to join Bilbo in his journey to the Grey Havens, and can now also act as a safe home from the monsters of Valheim.

While many popular Lord of the Rings locations have been reimagined in Valheim builds, there are still many important structures left that Valheim fans can try recreating. These include the fantastic halls of Gondor and the Elven kingdom of Rivendell, among many other options for players to reconstruct in any of the biomes available in Valheim’s world. For fans who want to take these Lord of the Rings builds a step further, selecting several of these massive Valheim bases for one server will turn a simple Valheim map into a sprawling reconstruction of Middle-earth worthy of any epic adventure.
