Valheim: Fine Wood & Core Wood Should Be Able To Stack Like Regular

Building and crafting are two important mechanics in Valheim, the Viking survival game from Iron Gate Studio. The game is still in early access via Steam, although it gets updates regularly. One updated feature that should definitely happen is the ability to stack core wood and fine wood the way players can already stack regular wood.

Players will to need to collect wood for a variety of useful weapons and tools, as well as for building bases and other defenses. While Valheim‘s building mechanic is addictive, it’s also vital for surviving in the game’s harsh world. With monsters like trolls and greydwarfs that can attack at any time, gathering wood and using it to build a home is important.

Typically, players can gather varieties of wood and place them in their inventory. Wood can stack up to fifty pieces at one time, but to help alleviate inventory space, players can place regular wood in stacks – or woodpiles – in the overworld. This not only frees up space, but it also makes the wood more accessible when building a home in Valheim. However, so far, only regular wood is able to stack this way – and Iron Gate Studio should change this in a future update.

For whatever reasons, only regular wood can be stacked. This means core wood and fine wood – useful materials for making weapons like the Abyssal harpoon and structures like longships and dragon beds – cannot be put into woodpiles. This is pretty frustrating because it means core wood and fine wood continues taking up precious inventory slots. It also makes building with these materials a bit more tedious, since players can’t just place them in stacks to pick up while constructing bases.

Fine wood, which drops from birch and oak trees, is a high-quality material used to make important weapons and structures. Core wood, which can be obtained from pine trees, are great for making cabins and pickaxes. Both are important for progressing through Valheim, so it’s odd that neither can be placed in stacks right now. Seemingly, there’s no reason why these types of wood won’t stack like regular wood. So, hopefully, Iron Gate Studio will change the way this works in the upcoming Hearth and Home update, which focuses on building.

No matter the reasoning behind it, Iron Gate Studio should definitely allow players to stack core wood and fine wood in-game. It would free up precious inventory space and make building and crafting work more smoothly. Hopefully, this feature will be added into a future update of Valheim soon.
