Valheim HD Textures Mod Makes the Game’s Visuals Pop

The simplistic yet wonderfully charming visuals Valheim can be elevated to a whole new level of realism thanks to the latest HD Textures mod. It’s quite common for the game’s community to modify the vanilla client in order to incorporate features that would’ve been otherwise unavailable.

One particular feature of the game which can be altered in fans’ favor is the strictly limited player count. Playable worlds in Valheim only support up to ten Viking survivalists, which is somewhat insufficient, especially in comparison to similar survival titles on the market. Thanks to a currently work-in-progress mod, however, it will soon be possible to turn Valheim into an MMO supporting over 1,000 players on a single map. That’s an honorable goal, which could potentially extend the game’s longevity for many years to come thanks to custom servers.

Another mod, available on NexusMods (and spotted by WCCFTech), Willybach’s HD textures pack is the next exciting mod to effectively make Valheim unrecognizable. Basically, the pack overhauls the majority of existing biomes in the survival/crafting title, changing the graphics toward photo-realistic quality. At the same time, the mod is aimed at sustaining the core visual style of the vanilla game by staying true to the original color palette. The latest version of the pack includes major visual upgrades for the Forest, Meadows, Plains, and Swamp biomes as well as improved textures for the majority of building and crafting assets. According to Willybach, various items, such as armors and weapons, and creatures are yet to be covered as for the time being, they continue utilizing their initial textures. Even in its unfinished state, though, the mod looks amazing.

Although Valheim is inspired by Norse mythology, there’s currently no functional magic system, which would’ve allowed players to cast spells. Mods are able to solve this problem as well, a long time before the small indie team of developers comes up with an official solution. For instance, thanks to the Necromancy mod for Valheim, Vikings can take advantage of straightforward summoning, gathering large groups of skeletons by their side. Such dark and grim wizardry perfectly matches the game’s style and atmosphere.

Despite being an impressive display of dedicated, hard work, Willybach’s HD textures mod slightly challenges the charming look of Valheim. Some might say that the game’s mediocre visuals require a massive improvement, but it could actually be that low-res textures and overall simplistic looks are among the key reasons why the survival title became so popular. It doesn’t belittle the mod’s outstanding quality, though. It should be deeply satisfying for fans to be able to upgrade their experience on the go, especially considering the current content drought and the uncertainty in regards to the updates release schedule.
