Valheim was an instant success the moment it became available to play and has continued to immerse fans since its release. This world inspired by Norse mythology lets players build bases and fight an array of monsters while they fight to survive in a harsh world. When it comes to dealing with pesky trolls and dragons, one of the best weapons to use is the Frostner hammer.

The Frostner is one of the many weapons available to use in Valheim.  This hammer boasts impressive knockback power, letting its wielder push struck enemies out of the way. Additionally, the weapon is imbued with frost properties, which slows the movement speed of those afflicted with it. The combination of these two effects makes the Frostner a fantastic defensive weapon, exhibiting crowd control by forcing away foes and making them approach slower due to the frost. Here are the materials needed to craft this useful armament, and how to go about acquiring them.

Crafting Valheim’s Frostner Hammer

10 Ancient Bark

  • To begin, players must acquire some ancient bark. Head to the nearest swamp biome and hack away at any ancient trees in the area. They’ll always yield regular wood, useful for building houses and such, but that’s not needed to craft this hammer. To get the ancient bark, a bronze axe or better is needed.

5 Ymir Flesh

  • While it might seem like Ymir flesh is dropped by Ymir, the primordial Norse entity, it’s not found anywhere in Valheim’s world. Instead, the traveling merchant Haldor will sell it to the player for 120 gold. While Haldor can only be found in the Black Forest biome, he will never leave his location. Once the player adds the Ymir flesh to their inventory, they’ll unlock the crafting recipe for the Frostner!

5 Freeze Gland

  • Next, journey on over to the mountain biome to hunt down some drakes. These dragon creatures drop the freeze gland item, useful for crafting frost arrows, and of course, the Frostner Hammer.

30 Silver

  • Lastly, 30 silver is required to complete the weapon. This material is smelted from silver ore, which Vikings can mine from the mountain biome and smelt with a smelter. To build a smelter, all that’s needed is 20 stone and 5 surtling cores, loot dropped by the fiery surtling creature. Additionally, players with extra silver on their hands can use it to buff the Frostner’s frost power.

When all of the materials are collected, head to a local forge to craft it. Once completed, a shiny new Frostner will be ready to wield in battle!

Valheim is in Steam’s early access and is available for PC.
