Most players of Coffee Stain Studio’s latest release, Valheim, are bound to have hit the dreaded carry capacity weight restriction. The cumulative weight of items needed only increases throughout a player’s playthrough, like all the Wood needed for crafting a base. Fortunately, the developers provide players with an excellent way to haul material around in the form of the Cart.

To craft the Cart, the player needs to have crafted the Antler Pickaxe, made with parts rewarded for defeating the first boss.  The player needs to mine Tin and Copper and smelt one tin with two copper to create bronze. Craft 20 bronze nails; only ten will be needed to make the cart. 20 wood will also be needed to craft the Cart.

Building and Using the Cart in Valheim

To build the Cart, right-click while the Hammer is equipped and open the Miscellaneous build tab. Select the cart, and place it in the desired location by left-clicking. Once set, approach the pulling bar of the Cart, and press “E” to “Use Cart.” The player will now be pulling the cart behind them. An optimal usage scenario would be when a player clears out a heavily-wooded forest section, breaking down all the Logs and Stumps with their Axe. With their inventory full of Wood, they can return to their cart and transfer their materials into the Cart’s storage(There’s a pretty handy way to stack standard storage containers). The player can then pick up the cart and run around to gather all the materials still on the ground, transferring Wood back into their cart once they have reached the maximum of their carrying capacity.

The player can also access the cart’s storage without putting it down, saving a short amount of time. “Ctrl+Left-click” will transfer full stacks of materials into open storage as well.  Be warned; the cart can break, so watch out for water, rocks, and bumpy terrain. On regularly used farming routes, plowing a road on rougher terrain is incredibly helpful.

Coffee Stain has impressed us yet again with another entertaining title and shows the ability to create a wide variety of games. It’s always a treat to see what the same studio behind Satisfactory and Goat Simulator come out with next. Coffee Stain and Iron Gate AB’s work on Valheim has hit the mark for many players and is definitely worth paying attention to. Coffee Stain has historically done well with continuously updating Early Access titles, and with over a million sales since release, they have a strong incentive to keep doing so.

Valheim is available to purchase now on PC via Steam Early Access.
