A crafty Valheim player has used the Elder’s summoning altar as a base to construct a huge stone castle. The survival sandbox title from Iron Gate Studio was released in early access back in February 2021. The game tasks players with gathering resources in order to survive in a deadly Norse-inspired fantasy land, but many fans are more inclined to flex their creative muscles instead.

Like other sandbox games, Valheim gives players a variety of tools and then allows them to use those tools in a creative way. A large part of the game’s fanbase focuses on building impressive structures, such as an impressive recreation of an Among Us map. Reddit user Caeus recently revealed a recreation of Among Us‘ Skeld map, which was built within the world of Valheim. A series of pictures and a detailed video demonstrate the extreme amount of detail which was stuffed into this popular indie crossover creation. Outside of impressive builds, Valheim players are able to flex their creativity in other unique ways. One innovative player was recently able to kill a Deathsquito, one of the game’s most terrifying creatures, by crushing it with a falling tree.

Valheim player and Reddit user Raisincookie1 recently showed off an impressive stone fortress which was built upon the Elder’s summoning altar. Altars are found throughout the world of Valheim and are used to summon the game’s various bosses through the sacrifice of materials. Raisincookie1 used Wood Iron pillars to make the build more stable, allowing for a complete overhaul of the Elder’s modest summoning altar. The castle comes complete with massive stone walls and a large tower to look over the land.

While Iron Gate Studio continues updating Valheim with new content, the game’s community also works to evolve the survival sandbox experience. An unofficial mod for the game makes it playable in virtual reality, bringing a whole new level of immersion to the adventure. The Valheim VR Mod recently added support for motion controllers, allowing players to engage in melee combat in a whole new way.

Valheim‘s large and loyal playerbase is constantly finding new ways to utilize the game’s wide variety of creation tools. While some builds start from scratch, others build upon the foundations that Iron Gate Studio has already put into the game. Raisincookie1’s castle creation utilizes specific construction materials to build upon a premade structure, but the result is wholly original and quite breathtaking.

Valheim is available now on PC.
