Valheim brings players to a new world full of battling monsters, building bases, and crafting weapons, this time with a Viking theme. Throughout the game’s biomes is a multitude of resources players can discover and farm to help them in their adventures, much like other crafting games. But one of the slightly more elusive resources in the game is Ymir flesh.

In Norse mythology, Ymir was a primordial being that lived in ancient nothingness and was the ancestor of the jötunn. Given such importance, it makes sense that its flesh is a rare material in the Viking-inspired world of Valheim, so here’s a guide on where to get it and why players will want it.

Everything to Know about Ymir Flesh in Valheim

Ymir flesh is a unique resource, as it does not spawn anywhere in the world of Valheim, nor is there any enemy that drops it as loot. Instead, players will need to find Haldor, the merchant, who will sell Ymir flesh to them in exchange for coin. Haldor only sets up shop in Black Forest biomes, so travel there to search for him. Once players have come into contact with Haldor, speak with him, and he will offer the Ymir flesh for 120 coins. In case players do not have enough currency to afford the purchase, Haldor will buy items in exchange for coins.

Now that players have Ymir flesh in their possession, what can it be used for? Currently, the resource is used to craft two different weapons that can be used in battle to fell Valheim’s myriad of monsters and bosses.

Iron Sledge

  • This two-handed club is the first weapon players can make with Ymir flesh, needing four of them to be precise. Additionally, they’ll need to acquire 10 ancient bark, 30 iron, and a Draugr Elite Trophy. That last item comes from a rare enemy, so those that manage to find and defeat one can craft the Iron Sledge as a reward for their victory. This weapon is very heavy to wield but can pack a punch against any who are unfortunate enough to be on the receiving end.

Frostner

  • Frostner is the other weapon crafted using Ymir flesh, this time using five of them. Players will also need to collect 10 ancient bark, 30 silver, and five freeze glands, which are dropped by defeated drakes. Unlike the Iron Sledge, the Frostner is a one-handed mace weapon that has high knockback power; perfect for keeping threatening foes at bay!

Valheim is in Steam Early Access and is available for PC.
