Vampire Survivors: How Does Luck Work

Luck sounds like an important thing in Vampire Survivors, and it affects many things, this includes critical hit chance, upgrade availability, item drops, and so on. But for players interested in increasing their luck, then they will be happy to know that luck can be upgraded through several methods. This includes buying a luck powerup in the game menu, collecting clovers from destroyed light sources, and selecting the luck upgrade when leveling up.

While increased luck can be dismissed by some as being a nominal improvement overall, some would argue that high luck will prove invaluable in the long run. Luck helps give the players valuable options in the early portions of a match, both in terms of weapon selection and item availability when destroying light sources. Luck can increase the odds of finding valuable items when they need them most.

Arguably the most relevant thing luck affects in Vampire Survivors is how it can give the player an additional weapon or upgrade to choose from when leveling up. This may not seem like much, but for players angling for a certain build, this can make all the difference. This is especially true in the mid to late game, where players may be looking for a specific option so they can go on a specific weapon evolution path.

1 How Luck Works in Vampire Survivors

Luck is also important for increasing the drop rate for certain items in Vampire Survivors. Players have likely already discovered that destroying light sources like candles and braziers can drop what are known as “pickups”. Taking the form of either gold coins or items, luck helps increase the chance of getting more useful drops like Rosaries or bars of Nduja Fritta. While little bits of gold are great, getting items that will further the player’s progress in surviving the level is much better.

In a similar vein, luck also increases the chance of getting high-tier treasure chests, which often drop when the player defeats powerful enemies in Vampire Survivors. Giving the player a substantial amount of gold and random weapon or accessory upgrades, treasure chests (as determined by the light they spew out when opened) come in a few color varieties that determine their overall quality. Blue is the most common, purple is less common, and gold is the rarest. Luck increases the potential for players to get rare chests that come with additional free upgrades.

Luck can also be used to decrease the chance of negative events like bat swarms and flower walls, but that can actually be a detriment if players want to repeatedly encounter mobs consisting of weak enemies. This is especially true in the late game when luck’s ability to increase the critical hit chance of certain weapons like the Bloody Tear and Heaven Sword can be considered invaluable for continued survival in Vampire Survivors.
