The eighth season of Vanderpump Rules ended in June 2020. Over a year later, season 9 was finally released in September 2021 with an altered cast and new storylines. In season 8, there were new cast members thrown into the mix who still worked at SUR, and it was the last fans saw of Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor, Brittany Cartwright, and Kristen Doute.

With main cast members missing from season 9, fans were unsure what to make of the new season, but it seems like the same old friendly drama will ensue. In the premiere, the VPR cast mentioned what they’ve been up to over the past year and it showed how much has stayed the same and how much has changed.

7 Lisa Vanderpump & Ken Todd

In the season 9 premiere, the show kicked off with Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz on their way to their bar, TomTom. Lisa Vanderpump (their boss, business partner, and the creator of Vanderpump Rules) and her husband Ken Todd were already at TomTom getting it ready for opening day.

Since COVID-19, Lisa and Ken’s West Hollywood restaurants were closed, but in the premiere, they were looking forward to opening back up again. Schwartz, Sandoval, and the others aren’t as active at SUR anymore, so fans questioned how Lisa Vanderpump was going to stay in contact with everyone in season 9. However, it appears she’ll meet up with the cast for drinks to stay up to date.

6 Sheana Shay & Brock Davies

Longtime cast member Scheana has a new man in her life, Brock Davies. Brock is now a part of the cast since he and Scheana live together and had a child together, Summer Moon Honey. Scheana told the cameras that Brock was one of the best boyfriends and the two had been together for two years.

Sadly, the couple had a miscarriage during quarantine and the entire ordeal rocked Scheana’s world. She’s been very vocal about fertility and family since then and has been open about it on her podcast, Scheananigans with Sheana Shay. And while it hasn’t been shown on the show just yet, Brock proposed to Sheana in July 2021, as reported by Bravo.

5 Katie Maloney-Schwartz & Tom Schwartz

Katie and Tom have been through the good, the bad, and the ugly in their relationship. It’s been shown throughout Vanderpump Rules’ entirety, including both of their weddings.

In season 9, the two are still married and living in their new home. Tom mentioned that they tried having a baby, but it was to no avail. They’ve also teamed up for a new project with Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix, a new bar. In the premiere, viewers saw Katie and Schwartz brainstorm about her contribution to the new bar, but as always, it has to be approved by their business partner, Sandoval. Thanks to episode 2 and a few previews, it looks like Katie and Sandoval are going to go head to head this season over the second bar, which could be bad for business.

4 Tom Sandoval & Ariana Madix

Similar to Schwartz and Katie, Sandoval and Ariana are still together and are in their new house down the street from them. In season 8, the two were mocked for not having furniture in their home, but they happily bragged about having a furnished home in season 9. Their relationship appeared solid, making them one of the best couples in the series.

In a sit-down lunch with Lisa, Ariana told her that she’s going to have a say in Tom and Tom’s new bar because the couple took out a second mortgage on their home to support their new venture. This aspect of their new business could add a few hiccups down the road if the bar goes south.

3 James Kennedy & Raquel Leviss

James Kennedy (aka DJ James Kennedy) was a bit of a mess in the years before he met Raquel. But it was thanks to her influence that James got sober and changed his life for the better. In season 9, the two are still happily dating and James is two years sober. In the second episode, James told Sandoval that he was going to propose to Raquel and needed all the help he could get.

With their romance going strong, Raquel is still working at SUR and James is still a DJ. In the premiere, he asked Lisa if he could DJ at SUR again, but after a fight he had with her son, it doesn’t look promising.

2 Lala Kent & Randall Emmett

Lala Kent is known for her witty remarks and controversial takes. She has crossed the line plenty of times over the years, but things appeared different at the start of season 9.

Lala had a baby named Ocean with her fiance, Randall Emmett, during time off from filming. She also wrote a successful memoir called Give Them Lala. In the premiere, Lala hoped to be on the New York Times Best Seller list, but she didn’t make the cut. Aside from her daughter and book, Lala has been in feuds with Scheana Shay and Ariana Madix during their downtime, and it’s all planned to unravel in season 9.

1 Charli Burnett

Charli Burnett was a reoccurring guest in season 8 of Vanderpump Rules, but in season 9, she’s a main cast member. Not much is known about Charli, but it’s believed fans will learn more about her throughout the season. Thus far, she’s been working at SUR with Raquel, while auditioning for different roles.

She’s also one of the few who’s not afraid to stand up against Lala, which she was seen doing in both premiering episodes for season 9. It will be interesting to see how Charli fits in with the group as a new cast member, especially while in a feud with Lala.
