Warning! Spoilers ahead for Dragon Ball Super chapter 81!

Ultra Ego might be a transformation that Goku can never learn in Dragon Ball Super, but combining it with Forced Spirit Fission should give Vegeta the upper hand he and Goku need to finally defeat Gas of the Heeter Force:

Although Dragon Ball Super is notorious for snubbing Vegeta, probably the most personal jab occurred when he used Forced Spirit Fission so Goku could defeat the main antagonist of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga, the planet-eater Moro. The technique allows Vegeta to manipulate energy for a variety of effects such as splitting up fusions or, most importantly, revitalizing others. It isn’t new that Goku almost always saves the day when Vegeta watches from the sidelines, but this particular instance was especially disrespectful to the Saiyan Prince since Forced Spirit Fission represented something extremely important to him, especially since he hadn’t invented Ultra Ego yet.

Vegeta learned this technique on Yardrat, the same planet where Goku mastered Instant Transmission. But even though Goku had the opportunity to train there for much longer than Vegeta did, Goku couldn’t get a handle on Forced Spirit Fission when Vegeta succeeded in a much shorter timeframe. Forced Spirit Fission, therefore, represented a form of mastery that Vegeta had and Goku didn’t despite the latter having more opportunities at his disposal. Even though this didn’t mean that Vegeta had finally surpassed Goku after years of trying, this was still a confirmation that he was more talented than Goku in at least one capacity despite for the fact that Goku had always been one step ahead of him.

But soon afterward, Goku didn’t just steal the show again despite Vegeta mastering Forced Spirit Fission; Vegeta had to use his own technique to help Goku save the day in chapter 66. He accomplished this by reversing how Forced Spirit Fission separates and manipulates energy from an intended target to gather energy from various fighters to revitalize Goku so Goku could defeat Moro. Although Vegeta played a major role in this eventual victory, he didn’t even get to use the reversed version of Forced Spirit Fission on himself so he could defeat Moro. In the present day, Vegeta could redeem himself in his battle against Gas of the Heeter Group by leveraging Forced Spirit Fission while in his Ultra Ego form and winning. This is actually possible since Goku just used Instant Transmission to teleport himself and Gas off-planet so that Monaito could continue healing Granolah. Even though Elec and his weaker brothers and sisters are still on planet Cereal, Vegeta should be able to keep them occupied until Granolah is fully revitalized. Once Granolah is healed, Monaito can rejuvenate Vegeta who could then use Instant Transmission to bring them to Goku and Gas.

Of course, Vegeta did mention the one time he used Instant Transmission to get from Yardrat to Earth that he probably wouldn’t be able to travel this way again, but Vegeta has already proven that he is capable of using this form of teleportation correctly even after only trying once before and failing. So, anything is possible. Vegeta’s ability to not only use Instant Transmission to come save Goku but to transform into Ultra Ego and then defeat Gas by leveraging a technique that Goku failed to master would be the most epic comeback in Dragon Ball history. But fans shouldn’t hold their breath. Dragon Ball Super mangaka Akira Toriyama is notorious for trolling fans, especially when it comes to Vegeta, so it’s unlikely that this would ever happen.
