Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s soundtrack only consists of one song, but the rest of the film comes with an impressive score by the irrepressible Marco Beltrami. Venom: Let There Be Carnage shows no sign of slowing down at the box office success, with its $90.1 million domestic opening weekend being a remarkable figure in a post-pandemic theatrical landscape. And part of exuding the fun of Sony’s Spider-Man universe is Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s soundtrack and score.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage takes place a year and a half after the events of Venom, which ended with Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and Venom committing to fight crime in contemporary San Francisco. Venom: Let There Be Carnage sees the pair’s relationship significantly sour, with Venom denied the delicacy of brains he vigorously craves by Eddie. The duo’s tiff is inevitably resolved, however, when Woody Harrelson’s deranged Carnage sets his eyes on the rampant destruction of their beloved city.

Venom 2 is jam-packed with original music, with several artists accredited for their work on scoring the film. Marco Beltrami is responsible for Let There Be Carnage‘s original score, while Eminem returns to the Venom franchise with another song exclusive to the movie: “Last One Standing”, which plays during Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s credits.

It is a no-brainer, then, that Venom: Let There Be Carnage‘s creative team asked Eminem to return for the sequel, given the vast reach of their initial collaboration. Eminem duly obliged, creating a collaboration-heavy tune that is featured prominently in Let There Be Carnage. “Last One Standing” features singer/songwriter Skylar Grey as well as fellow rappers Polo G and Mozzy and is available for streaming and purchase on multiple platforms now.

Meanwhile, Beltrami took over composition duties from Ludwig Göransson, who scored 2018’s Venom. A long-time friend and collaborator of horror master Wes Craven, Beltrami’s work is often underscored by a pervading sense of dread that ratchets up the on-screen tension in any project he touches. Some of his relevant score credits include the taut A Quiet Place film series and dystopian visions I, Robot, and World War Z.

Beltrami’s Let There Be Carnage score stays true to his darker compositional roots, with tracks like “Lethal Rejection” filling the audience with ample dread as Cletus Kasady escapes death with the help of the Carnage symbiote. Others, like “You Can Eat Them All”, reveal the artists’ playful whimsy when translating Venom and Eddie’s comical bickering into musical form. The Venom: Let There Be Carnage soundtrack is an ample companion for Sony’s hit movie but also stands up well to standalone listening.
