Venom’s Kids Are Marvel’s Most Adorable Team

Venom’s kids are the most adorable team in Marvel Comics, but in reality, they are potentially one of Marvel’s most powerful duos. Consisting of Venom’s biological son Dylan, and the symbiote Sleeper, which was spawned from Venom. While Sleeper has a traditional humanoid appearance, he takes the form of a cat while on Earth in order to disguise himself better. Yet readers of Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s Venom run know this duo is adorable…but deadly!

First appearing in Cates and Stegman’s Venom #7, Dylan Brock is the long-lost son of Eddie Brock AKA Venom. Being the son of Venom, he is a unique human/symbiote hybrid, which allows him control over symbiotes, all without needing to actually bond to one. Debuting just a few months before Dylan, Sleeper was the next in a long line of symbiotes spawned by Venom, and after bonding to the corpse of a Kree soldier, travels the cosmos, barely escaping an assimilation attempt by the symbiote god Knull. Dylan and Sleeper meet during the Absolute Carnage and became friends.

During the event, the Maker, an evil Reed Richards from another dimension, attempts to kill Sleeper. Supercharged by other symbiotes, The Maker engages Dylan, who at first tries to bond with Sleeper, but his symbiote/human physiology will not let him. Instead, he forces Sleeper into the form of a wolf and with the help of other Marvel heroes, manages to stop the Maker. Sleeper decides to stay with Dylan, opting to take the form of a cat in order to blend in better.

Since the meeting, the duo shared adventures together. As the threat of Knull looms larger and larger, and he attempts to exert control over not only the symbiotes but also Dylan, Sleeper has played an important role in stopping Knull’s advances, as well as learning more about Knull and how to defeat him.

The bond between a child and their pet can be a strong one, and the bond between Dylan Brock and Sleeper is a prime example of that. Even though the two have only known each a short amount of time, they are beginning to function as a unit; this will come in handy seeing as Knull is on his way to Earth, and it will be up to Dylan, Sleeper, Venom, and the rest of the heroes of the Marvel Universe to stop him. Their knowledge of Knull, combined with Dylan’s abilities to manipulate symbiotes, could be the turning point in the war against Knull.
