Vin Diesel is in the recording studio to voice Groot for exciting MCU projects. Diesel is best known for headlining the Fast & Furious film franchise. In 2014, Diesel joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Guardians of the Galaxy. He provided the voice and motion capture for Groot, the sentient tree-like humanoid whose vocabulary is limited to the line: “I am Groot.” Diesel reprised the role in the Guardians sequel and again in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. 

Groot was first introduced as Rocket Raccoon’s partner whose abilities include growing his vines and branches. The tree-like alien sacrificed himself to save his friends in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Following his death, Rocket grew a sapling from his branches and raised the Baby Groot into a Teenage Groot. He was among those who vanished after Thanos’ snap and was later resurrected by the Avengers. Diesel is confirmed to return as the fan-favorite character in Thor: Love and Thunder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Diesel recently gave an exciting update regarding his portrayal of Groot. In his latest Instagram post, the 54-year-old actor shared a video of himself at the recording studio hard at work to voice the beloved character. He was with his friend/technician who also helped him to record for The Iron Giant back in 1999. “Wow, from the Iron Giant to Groot. Blessed and grateful. Great job everyone. Know the family will love what we did today for The Groot universe,” Diesel wrote in the caption. See his little sneak peek below:

While Diesel didn’t specify which series or movie he was working on, it is likely either the upcoming Thor or Guardians of the Galaxy sequels. The two projects are currently in production and are gearing up for their cinematic releases. Additionally, Marvel has previously confirmed that they’re working on a holiday special featuring the Guardians of the Galaxy and a standalone series of animated shorts entitled I Am Groot to be aired this year on Disney+. The animated series will follow Baby Groot and his adventures around the galaxy.

It is unknown whether Diesel would be voicing the famous talking tree for the Disney+ series, but fans can keep their fingers crossed. There is no doubt that Diesel’s deep voice has become synonymous with the “I am Groot” catchphrase. With just those three words, the actor gave life to the CGI character and endeared it to millions of fans. It is certainly exciting to know what the MCU has in store for the talking tree beyond Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, just as Diesel teased about the expansion of “The Groot universe.”
