When she was introduced in the eighth episode of Season 3 titled “Made To Suffer,” Sasha Williams proved to be a useful addition to the already existing pool of interesting characters in The Walking Dead. Introduced as the younger sister of Tyreese, Sasha proved to be even more formidable than her brother.

Sasha was not only fierce but also a logical decision-maker. Her intuition was remarkable as she would frequently see things that others didn’t. And when it came to the fight scenes, she proved to be very skilled with the rifle. The following are a couple of things viewers didn’t know about the character.

10 A Random Addition

The character Sasha wasn’t planned to appear in the AMC series. The major reason for this was that the character wasn’t in the comics. However, when Sonequa Martin-Green showed up to audition for the role of Michonne, she missed the part but the producers felt her performance was very impressive.

They thus decided to create the character Sasha just for her. It turned out to be a good decision as Sasha would go on to become a fan-favorite character in the series.

9 Number Of Jobs She Has Had

Sasha has been quite busy. Before the events of the show, Sasha is said to have worked as a firefighter during the Pre-Apocalypse. She would then serve as a guard in Woodbury to protect the town against any zombie attacks.

Sasha also served a supply runner and council member for the West Georgia Correctional Facility Prison, also known as The Prison. She’d later volunteer to be a guard at Alexandria.

8 The Baggy Clothing

Viewers might have noticed that for most of Season 5, Sasha wears baggier clothing. From the third episode titled “Four Walls And A Roof” up to the Season 6 premiere, her clothes are mostly oversize. This is because actress Sonequa Martin-Green was filming while pregnant.

Sasha could be seen wearing Bob’s large military jacket and an extra-large black t-shirt among other outfits. The explanation on the show was that she was wearing items previously owned by dead characters that she was close to.

7 The Third Original Main Character To Die

Sasha was the third original main character in The Walking Dead to die. The first was the villainous Merle, who died quite early in the series while trying to kill The Governor after the two fell out. The second was Beth who was killed by Dawn.

Sasha’s death happened when she ingested a cyanide pill in the Season 7 finale titled “The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life.” There was speculation that Sasha was killed off because actress Sonequa Martin-Green had landed a role on Star Trek but she denied that this was the case. Sasha’s time had simply come to an end.

6 She Was Supposed To Be A Minor Character

Actress Martin-Green once revealed that Sasha was meant to be a minor character who would only appear in a few episodes. Luckily, thanks to her good working relationship with the show’s other creator Glenn Mazzara, her character’s responsibilities were expanded.

She told the Hollywood Reporter: “Sasha was supposed to be a recurring character and as we kept going forward, they picked up my option to be a regular. It’s very rare and I’m still quite dumbfounded about it but Glen and I hit it off and I still appreciate him.”

5 She Had Another Relative In The Comics

In the comics, Tyreese Williams wasn’t the only relative that Sasha had. She had a niece named Julie who had a rather interesting storyline. Together with her boyfriend, the two concluded that the zombie world was too chaotic for them. They thus made a suicide pact.

But while they pointed guns at each other, the boyfriend shot first. Julie reanimated then she was shot again. Tyreese showed up shortly after that and killed the boyfriend out of anger.

4 One Of The Highest Kill Counts

Sasha is among the characters with the highest kill counts in The Walking Dead. This is thanks to her good marksmanship skills. Her notable kills were those of Martin, David, a zombified Duke, and an infected Roy.

She also killed a couple of prison newcomers and several unnamed members of The Governor’s henchmen. She killed 6 Saviors too and countless zombies. Despite her numerous kills, Sasha was one of the few characters on the show with very strong morals.

3 Last Woman Standing

At the time of her death, Sasha was the last-woman standing on many fronts. When she died, all the members of Tyreese’s original Pre-Apocalypse group had already died. All her family members, including Tyreese, had already died too.

In addition to that. all the Prison Flu survivors had died too. Everyone who joined the prison community had as well. And in Season 7, she also had the honor of being the final character to die. She really did survive plenty of things.

2 Exploits As A Walker

In Season 7, Sasha was the only walker who murdered a human. She is also the only main character who killed a human after turning into a walker.

Unfortunately, she would also be killed by Maggie who stabbed her in the head. This happened after the battle with the Saviors when Jesus and Maggie found her roaming around in the woods of Alexandria.

1 Her Suicide

Sasha was the second main character to die by committing suicide. The first to do was Andrea who shot herself on the head to prevent reanimation after being beaten on the neck. The third to do so was Carl who also shot himself to prevent reanimation after being bitten on the abdomen.

The difference between Sasha and the other two is that they shot themselves to avoid turning into walkers while Sasha killed herself so that she could turn into a walker.
