The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan revealed he used a knife to give Negan his jail haircut. The long-running zombie thriller is currently in its tenth season. The season finale was scheduled for airing this month, but was delayed to an unspecified date later this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Walking Dead has featured numerous characters across its ten seasons, but few get fans excited like Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan. The character debuted at the end of season 6, making his presence known by bashing a main character’s head in. From there, many fans enjoyed Negan, with Morgan delivering a charismatic and sarcastic performance as the character. The actor remains a fan favorite for his sense of humor on and off camera. In response to a fan asking if the season finale script could be read, Morgan joked he would get the cast to perform it remotely over FaceTime. Negan is certainly a notable character for a number of reasons, such as his consistently good haircut.

Over on The Rich Heisen Show, Jeffrey Dean Morgan appeared remotely, talking about his new show, Friday Night In with the Morgans, along with other subjects. The final topic came from a fan calling in, asking how Negan manages to keep his hair immaculate in the middle of zombie apocalypse. Morgan had a good time with this question, even revealing he used a knife to cut his hair during Negan’s time in jail.

Here’s how crazy I am: I decided to see if I could give myself a fade, the Negan fade, using a knife. So believe it or not, I cut my hair for that show using a knife. I had to try it… I knew that I’d get asked about it, for years, ‘How come no one’s bugging Negan about his gelled up hair with his nice haircut?’ And when I was in jail, the season I was in jail, I decided to see if I could cut my hair using a really sharp knife, and you can. I cut myself a few times but it’s a possible thing. The producers weren’t exactly thrilled.

It is certainly interesting picturing Morgan using a knife as scissors; one can easily picture Negan doing it. (Of course, this isn’t advisable to try at home.) Negan spent a good amount of episodes in jail after the “All-Out War” storyline. Although still the sarcastic character, he began a redemption arc there by befriending Judith. After killing Alpha in a plan enacted by Carol, Negan is in a hospital alongside the other characters as Beta’s horde approaches.

When The Walking Dead returns, the season looks to end with a couple of big developments. Presumably, this episode will bring the conflict with the Whisperers to a close. The Commonwealth story appears to be setting up with Eugene on his way to meet Stephanie. Meanwhile, the previous episode introduced fan-favorite Princess, who became a main character in the final arc of the comic book. Plus, Maggie is making her return after being gone for numerous episodes. Big things are on their way for Walking Dead fans.
