Walking Dead: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Wasn’t Actually Naked For Alpha & Negan Scene

Norman Reedus reveals that his The Walking Dead co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan was not actually naked for Negan’s love scene with Samantha Morton’s Alpha. They may play bitter enemies on the show, but in real life Reedus and Morgan have struck up a lovely friendship, and have publicly made it known that they are in favor of their characters Daryl and Negan burying the hatchet and becoming buddies in the Walking Dead universe.

Unfortunately, the chances of Daryl and Negan becoming pals seem pretty remote as The Walking Dead enters the back half of season 10. When the characters were last seen in season 10, episode 9, Daryl had just escaped the walker horde in the cave trap laid by Alpha, and was at a crossroads with Carol (Melissa McBride) after his long-time BFF’s erratic behavior caused the apparent deaths of Magna (Nadia Hilker) and Connie (Lauren Ridloff). Negan meanwhile was involved in even stranger activities, finding himself in the woods seemingly about to be killed by Alpha until the Whisperers leader instead offered him a “crass reward.” The episode’s last shot of Negan and Alpha saw the two naked, with Alpha still sporting her skin mask and Negan passionately kissing her on the “lips.”

That weird love scene between Negan and Alpha certainly did the trick when it came to generating social media buzz, and it apparently had the actors talking behind-the-scenes as well. Speaking to EW, Reedus revealed that Morgan was not in fact naked when the scene was shot, and discussed what he told his friend after he found out the actor would avoid showing everything in front of the crew:

“I do remember when that was written and I was like, ‘Jeff!’ And he’s like, ‘What? What? Samantha doesn’t want to get naked so I don’t really have to get naked.’ And I’m like, ‘That’s not what I heard. I heard Samantha wants to but you don’t want to.’ And he’s like, ‘Well no, you know, I’d….’ He was just stumbling on his words and I was like, ‘You know what? I’ve been butt naked on this show several times in front of everybody!”

Reedus revealed that Morgan actually sported “flesh colored ballerina bottoms” and a “beige-colored diaper” in the scene with Morton. This led to plenty of ribbing from Reedus, who claims that he and former TWD actor (and sometime director) Michael Cudlitz are still the only two performers who have gone fully and truly naked on the show.

As if the sight of Negan and Alpha making out in the woods wasn’t already strange enough, Walking Dead fans can now imagine Negan wearing ballerina bottoms and a diaper to complete the hilariously weird effect. But how will things eventually play out for Negan among the Whisperers now that he and Alpha have become lovers? That’s anyone’s guess. No doubt, Negan’s on-going presence will lead to some issues with Beta (Ryan Hurst), who may now have been replaced as Alpha’s favorite. Of course, there’s also the possibility that Negan’s activities among the Whisperers are all part of a huge ploy by the former Saviors chief to help the Communities defeat their greatest enemies. Indeed, plans and counter-plans have been a big part of the story in The Walking Deadseason 10, so it would not be a surprise if Negan joining the Whisperers and getting close to Alpha is just one more elaborate ruse.
