AMC’s The Walking Dead season 10 bonus episodes will reveal what happened to Daryl after Rick. The tenth season of the hit zombie apocalypse series was put on hold in early 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. What was initially meant to be the season 10 finale aired in October shortly after AMC decided to expand the season with additional episodes airing in 2021. AMC recently announced more details about the six “bridge” episodes, which will lead into the 11th and final season. Starting February 28, 2021, on AMC and its streaming platform AMC+, the episodes will show the survivors dealing with the aftermath of the Whisperers war.

Season 9’s six-year time jump was a surprise to many fans as it marked one of the biggest departures from Robert Kirkman’s comics. The time jump followed Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) presumed death after the bridge explosion in season 9 episode “What Comes After,” though unbeknownst to the other characters, he was rescued and taken away on a helicopter by the Civic Republic Military. In a late-season 9 episode titled “Scars,” flashback scenes taking place about eight months after the bridge explosion show Daryl (Norman Reedus) searching for his friend’s body along with Michonne (Danai Gurira). In the six years since Rick’s disappearance, Daryl was self-isolating in the woods with his dog, believing Rick may still be alive somewhere, before reconnecting with Carol (Melissa McBride). Of course, Daryl had to put his search to the side to help the other survivors take on the Whisperers. While the last couple of seasons have revealed snippets of what some of the other characters experienced in between that time jump, fans will now get to see what exactly happened to Daryl when he left the group.

Reedus has previously discussed Daryl’s hunt for Rick and how he could not move on like the rest of the survivors following Rick’s disappearance. On a 2019 episode of AMC’s Talking Dead, Reedus hinted at Daryl’s belief that Rick is still out there and requires closure.

The Daryl and Carol-centered episode will be a preview for the two characters’ upcoming spin-off series. While the two friends have had a bumpy relationship over the last ten seasons, their episodes together are always some of the most intriguing to watch, as they seem to have a special connection that they don’t share with the other Walking Dead characters. Based on the episode’s synopsis, it looks like Daryl went through some struggles in the time after Rick’s disappearance that Carol and the viewers will learn about for the first time.
